A Morning Walk Along Maltepe Coast - Turkiye

Last Wednesday, I spent a delightful morning with my friend at the Dragos Social Facilities located by the Maltepe coastline in Istanbul. The day began with a hearty breakfast at the seaside café inside the social facility. The warm spring sun was already shining through the windows as we sat at our table, enjoying traditional Turkish breakfast items like simit, olives, cheese, honey, and fresh-brewed tea. The sea was calm, and the breeze coming from the water added a refreshing touch to the experience.

After finishing our meal, we decided to go for a walk along the coastal path. The weather was perfect—not too hot, not too cold—and the sky was a bright, cloudless blue. The promenade was filled with people enjoying the day: joggers in colorful athletic gear, families riding bicycles, elderly couples walking hand-in-hand, and children playing by the water. It was clear that the community truly values this scenic area.

As we continued our stroll, we unexpectedly came across a film crew setting up for what appeared to be a TV series or movie shoot. Curious, we stopped at a distance to observe. There were actors in costume, large cameras, lights, and people giving directions with walkie-talkies. The scene being filmed seemed dramatic, although we couldn’t hear the dialogue clearly. We stayed for a while, watching the process with interest—it was fascinating to see the behind-the-scenes action of a production happening in a place we often visit.

After leaving the film set behind, we continued walking all the way to the pier, taking in the sea views and enjoying the peacefulness of the moment. The birds flew low over the water, and small fishing boats could be seen floating in the distance. It felt like time slowed down, allowing us to truly appreciate the beauty around us.

By the time we decided to head back, we had walked several kilometers without even noticing it. Our conversation had flowed easily, and the combination of good food, fresh air, and a bit of unexpected entertainment made the morning feel like a mini vacation in the middle of the week.

That day reminded me how rejuvenating it can be to spend time outdoors, especially in a beautiful and lively place like Maltepe’s coastline.
