🧵2/ This mine was so important that it contributed to Sweden becoming a major European power in the 17th century. It produced a significant portion of the world’s copper at the time.
🧵3/ Interestingly, the characteristic red paint used on many traditional Swedish wooden houses, known as Falu rödfärg, comes from the byproducts of the mining process.
🧵4/ This iconic paint has been used for centuries and remains a symbol of Swedish architecture to this day!
The mine itself is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
