Sketchtember day 17: The Ocean

Omg I still made it ;;w;; I still get to keep my streak after such a painstakingly long day ;;-;; I was so tired today I didn't even get to draw at noon, I just spent my entire break napping because audit prep really tires a girl out, and this girl has been trying to update everything that needs to be updated.

But going back to my sketchtember challenge, I am on day 17 and that is fear of the ocean or thalassophobia And this generally just covers large bodies of water. I do think lakes and rivers would fall into this category too. Meanwhile things found in the depths of the water is a separate phobia altogether but I think I would have liked to draw that too.

So this phobia is developed either in tandem with an existing fear of water or of some life event that made going near large bodies of water unbearable for the victim. It is a fascinating phobia but I do feel bad for the person suffering this because they'll never get to enjoy a beach day or a river day

Duration: 3 hours
Materials: blue pens, white pens, chalk

Despite how messy this one looks, I actually like the appeal this one has ^^ It has that raw violence the ocean has but also that mystery of where she came from, IDK I just really like how messy this one is but I can't explain why.

You'd be surprised to know that I started this off on watercolor though XD I wanted to try out the watercolor set I have but the color just wasn't up to par with the depth I wanted to do since when I think ocean, I think deep blue, specifically the deep part and watercolor does not have enough depth for me sometimes

And to appease my mind, I went ahead and penned it in XD I swear I wanted to try watercolor but after like 3 layers and the colors still looked pale af to me, I gave up. Layering pen and watercolor looked good though, the watercolor kind of amplified the color of the pen so I think I will look into that technique one of these days if it works in all cases or just in this case.

After dark blue, went with a lighter blue and used that to actually blend the ink and watercolor a little and it came out really nice, it built up a good bit of depth on both layer but I saved the head for last because I was not sure with what I wanted to do with the head. I did go light blue too so that if I needed to add more depth, I could just use the dark blue pen.

Unfortunately, I forgot to take a snap at a random point so I can't show what I did to the head. And I kind of struggled with making her look like she was emerging from water. But done is done and late is late but I am definitely still up keeping my streak ^^ and I am kind of aiming for a 1 month writer badge now XD and who knows, next year I might try for the 1 year badge if my energy allows it. Count it as one of my biggest feats of 2025 already
But this is just me being a little high from actually being this consistent for this long XD I am proud of me, not so much on my art lately but I am proud of the little improvements I have ^^

So that covers my day 17 ^^ Thank you guys for stopping by! And I hope to see you again tomorrow!
