Lilioceris cheni

Several months ago, I discovered a beautiful insect with a bright red body and contrasting black head and antennae. After I researched it, it turned out that this was Lilioceris cheni, a type of leaf beetle from the Chrysomelidae family.

I found it during the day on the leaves of the Antigonon leptopus plant (Bride's Tears plant), which seems to be its food source. This insect is quite easy to recognize by its slender, brightly colored body, a characteristic of the genus Lilioceris.

Interestingly, this beetle is known as a biocontrol agent against the invasive plant Dioscorea bulbifera in several countries, although in my area no further information has been found about its ecological role.

NOTE: I first wrote the article above in Indonesian, which is my own language, then I translated it using English with the help of Goggle.
