There is no Excuses for Ignorance - Education Is Everywhere
I read the below quote somewhere, and it captured my attention, and I thought it was worth sharing with friends here.
"Make no excuses for ignorance! Money may stop you from enrolling in school, but nothing should stop you from getting an education.
And now, I add... "Learning is everywhere - in books, on the streets, online, in conversations, through experiences."
Ignorance is one of the greatest limitations anyone can place on themselves. While it is true that money can sometimes stop a person from enrolling in formal schooling, education itself has never been limited to the four walls of a classroom. Education is not only about certificates; it is about growth, understanding, and the ability to apply knowledge to improve one’s life and society.
Schooling vs. Education
It is important to differentiate between schooling and education. Schooling is structured, comes with a cost, and often leads to degrees and certificates. Education, however, is much broader. It is the process of acquiring knowledge, developing skills, and shaping character. It can happen in a classroom, but it can also happen in a conversation, through observation, through reading a free online article, or even from personal experiences.
This is why one cannot justify ignorance simply because of a lack of money to pay school fees. The world is too rich with opportunities to learn for free.
The World as our Classroom
Today, we live in an age where information has been democratized. With just a smartphone or access to a library, you can explore countless resources at no cost. Podcasts, documentaries, e-books, open courses, and educational videos are freely available to anyone willing to learn. Beyond technology, life itself is a teacher, through the instrumentality of experiences, challenges, and interactions. They all carry lessons if only we are attentive.
You can learn discipline and responsibility by observing how a diligent worker carries out their craft. Also, you can gain leadership insights from serving in a community group or even your local church. Yes! You can master financial literacy by reading freely available resources online. Education is everywhere, and those who stay curious never stop growing.
Blaming circumstances for ignorance is a trap that only breeds stagnation. The reality is that people who refuse to learn are not limited by poverty, but by attitude. The real poverty is not the lack of money, it is the lack of desire to grow. Every day presents us with an opportunity to learn something new. Sometimes it is in a book, in a conversation, sometimes in a failure that carries an important lesson. What matters is your willingness to embrace it.
While schooling may not be available to everyone at all times, education is within reach of anyone who chooses it. The question is not whether you can afford to go to school, but whether you have the hunger to keep learning. Ignorance is a choice. Knowledge, growth, and wisdom are also choices.
Thank God today, we have home-schooling and other informal options for learning. So, make no excuses. Open your mind. Learn from everyone, everywhere, and everything. That is true education, and it costs nothing but a willing heart.
