We don't need artificial sugar

I see a lot of people doing a No-sugar diet. This is a trend that is happening everywhere, and I see a lot of people on this diet in my office. They take everything but sugar. For this reason, they don't even drink coffee or tea, which might need sugar, and it can be hard to drink them without sugar for some people. It is believed that there is a massive benefit in this and especially for weight loss and becoming healthy. I always used to believe that we need to have a balanced diet, and sweet is also something that has to be a part of the diet so that we eat food of all tastes.

I recently met a doctor, and I was discussing this topic. My question was to understand whether this is a myth or a true thing. My parents usually come for an arguement, saying that they did not do all these things during their young age or years back. All these things look like a new trend. But the food habits they had long back during their young age is different from what we are currently having. Today, we have added sugar to almost everything. So this is something that we cannot compare with the old food habits.

Source

I have seen a positive result in many people, where when they reduce the intake of sugar, they have a good weight loss and body fat muscles are recycled. This is a very positive thing. Doctors also say that we Indians have all types of things in our diet, including sugar in the grains we consume. So, on top of it, if we add more sugar, that's what creates problems like diabetes or other health issues. Our body struggles to process too much of sugar or salt that we give to process. At one point, it finds it very hard and reflects in the form of health issues.

We cannot help much during special occasion because we end up eating a lot of sugar during that time. There will be special foods, and there will be sweets. But apart from such festivals, having a good control over the sugar we consume is a great thing, and we can see the benefits evidently. I have seen many people getting good shape and color after they do this no sugar thing for months. It helps a lot in weight loss and keeping the body fit.

Some people think that the problem is only with white sugar, and the other forms of sugar are fine. But any sugar is an added sweetener, and it is good to avoid any type of sugar. The result will be evident for anyone doing this, and they themselves will get the motivation. I have seen people getting such motivation by themselves. Some people use Honey or fruits as an alternative to Sugar to add more sweetness to their food. Seasonal fruits are always the best source of nutrition.

Simply cutting added sugar makes a huge difference for health and energy. Most people don’t realize how much is hidden in everyday foods until they start reading labels. Fruits are a much better way to satisfy a sweet tooth though

Recently I happened to see an interview of a Dubai based Indian doctor who said the beginning of any disease is the sugar intake. The more you control sugar, the less you suffer from health issues. This article reminded me of the Doctor. Nice one 👍.

I also heard some doctors saying that even the natural sugar we from fruit can be harmful if not taken in moderation

Packaged food is coming with so many disadvantages. I could remember once I bought a newly introduced soft drink and after taking it, I started feeling a little dizzy. It was too sugary and that was my last try.

I saw a doctor's video post one time about how people deceive themselves that they can avoid white sugar and take a lot of honey to stay healthier but it's all just the same thing.

This is so true. Cutting down on sugar really can make a big difference for health and energy. Our grandparents didn’t have sugar in everything like we do now, so maybe it’s time we also go back to eating in moderation.

Well, sugary things have more disadvantages than advantages as you rightly mentioned, especially the sugar in the processed food that we eat. In the olden days, people eat more balance diet than we have these days as this is a result of the kind of food they eat. There is fruit for them to eat, and there is less processed food like we have now these days.

You're quite right, sugar is a killer, no wonder why in first world countries (USA, Australia, Europe) obesity is a pandemic with immense consequences

Your advocacy for natural alternatives like honey and dates is a much-needed reminder to return to whole foods. It's an interesting discussion because, while the health concerns you raise are significant and part of an ongoing scientific debate, it also highlights the importance of personal choice and listening to our own bodies, as you suggest.

In this case, I am very lucky that I have not liked sugary foods much since childhood. It will never be right to compare the children of the current generation with the previous people because before they were quite strong, their eating habits were very good, but now it is completely different. We will never have anything in common with them, whether in physical or mental form. However, we have to taste all kinds of food, we have to eat sugar in very small quantities. This will keep our body in good shape.

I'm part of the camp of people who drink tea without sugar :)
At first it was quite hard but eventually my taste buds got used to it and now even local made beverages are drank without any artificial sugar. I think there are many health benefits to it, as you've mentioned in your post. For me, the most noticeable is more stable emotions and mental activity, less fatigue, both physical and also mentally/emotionally.

Believe it or not fruit sugar, fructose, (which is in honey too) is actually more dangerous and and a greater contributor to diabetes than refined table sugar. This is because it is processed in an entirely different way to glucose. If you take too much in one sitting your liver goes into shock and turns it into fat which sits directly around the liver causing all sorts of issues. Now table sugar, sucrose is 50% glucose and 50% fructose but it takes time for the body to split it into the two constituent parts so there isn't a spike in fructose to freak the liver out.

The reason our bodies does this is down to our behavior in the past. Fruit is seasonal so when we eat a lot of it our body thinks "great time to lay down fat for when less food is available". In the modern world fruit is available all year round and your body hasn't adapted to this concept. So it may sound bizarre but careful with that 2nd glass of fruit juice it will do you more damage than even the worst processed crap.

I even strongly believe that one of the things affecting our present world is too much consumption of sugar

Sugar is of no benefit to the body, it only melts the muscle in the body, I never use sugar, I buy my sugar supplement from fruits, I eat honey, but natural

Sugar is very harmful to the body, you should not eat excess sugar. Eating excess sugar can cause many long-term diseases. The natural foods that we eat regularly contain a lot of sugar, so we should not eat sugar separately. To keep our body healthy, we all need to eat more natural fruits. Thank you for discussing such a beautiful topic and for highlighting it to everyone.
