Reduced number of parking slots in the City

I'm living in Chennai which is one of the metropolitan city in India. The population in Chennai has drastically increased in the last decade. Many people from outside the city are coming inside to get a good job and a good lifestyle. Compared to other Metro cities in India, Chennai I would say is still growing in certain aspects but it is very special. The cost of living in the city is also becoming very high. Another interesting thing about Chennai is that the borders of Chennai city are widening. As more people are coming here for work and other things, there is a huge demand to live in this city thus increasing the cost of living and also increasing the border of the city.

If we have to get out of the city, Tambaram used to be the limit back then, and after that traffic was less. But today the traffic is there till Chengalpet which is about 60 km far from City. This is how the city is expanding. Some of the companies have their buildings outside the city limits but people who want a good life live in the city and commute to their offices.

Car parking facilities

There is a flat opposite my house that was built about 20 years ago. But when that flat was built, that was one of the most attractive buildings in my area. Most of the other buildings were individual houses. But today after 20 years, that building is the oldest building in our area without car parking facilities. Things that were very attractive in the past are getting old and new needs are overriding the existing needs.

Today the expectation is to have at least one car parking facility in the building. People are building flats starting from the first floor leaving the ground floor fully for car parking. There are also buildings available that has a hydraulic setup in the car parking where one car can be kept above the other. For people who own two cars, this setup is very good. In my opinion this will become the new trend and the basic requirement when people are purchasing new houses.

Own cars for transport

Not in just individual houses but car parking slots in other places are also a big demand. Especially official places are finding it hard to provide one car slot for every individual. They are trying to upgrade their systems so that the slots can be taken based on availability. Today people are even ready to pay enough money to park their cars safely. For example, someone who is traveling for a week or more than that is parking their car in a public car parking facility instead of keeping it at home. If nobody is going to be at home, the car can be damaged, and keeping it at a parking facility is going to cost a little but security is always there to take care of the car.

Today people use their cars to travel instead of using public transport or two-wheelers. Cars are indeed a bit safer compared to two-wheelers. The fuel cost is also not a big deal because people can afford it and many people have started using electric vehicles where the cost is very little compared to fossil fuel cars. The world is transitioning. We just don't have any flying cars yet but maybe we will start getting that too soon.
