Completed 10000 Kms in my electric bike

As of today, I have completed riding 10,000 km on my Revolt RV400 electric bike. I bought this bike exactly 3 years ago. Looks like I had bought the bike on 27th June 2022. In the last 3 years, I have covered a total of 10000 Kms. I did not realize that it was exactly 3 years. When I started writing this article, I went back to check when I got this bike from the showroom, and then only noticed that it was exactly 3 years. I'm glad that it was a great purchase, and I enjoyed riding on this vehicle.

A simple calculation

By purchasing this vehicle, I saved some money, and at the same time, I also did some good for the environment by choosing an eco-friendly bike. I would like to calculate how much I have saved by purchasing this bike.

10,000 is my total km. Every time I charge the vehicle, it gives me 100 kms range, which means I had charged my vehicle 100 times. Every time I charge, it consumes 4 units of current. Per unit, the charge is around 7-8. So let me take the maximum value, which is 8 so the vehicle had consumed about 400 units of charge in total, which comes to around Rs 3200. In the last 3 years, I did not do any service either, so there is a cost saving on that part as well.

If I had an ordinary petrol vehicle, for 10,000 km, I would have to fill 200 liters of petrol, because one liter would give a mileage of 50 km. The cost of 1 liter of petrol here is about Rs 105, so I would have spent about Rs 21000 for petrol alone. Maybe the service cost would be about 1000 once in 3 months and 3 years, about 12000 Rs. So I would have spent about 33000 Rs if it had been a non-electric vehicle, as the operational cost. So overall 30,000 Rs is a save for me.

If all is good with the bike and if I ride another 10,000 Kms on this bike, I would recover half of the cost of the vehicle. Some people cover about 10,000 km in a single year, and this is a great option for them.

Some regrets in buying this vehicle

I don't have any major complaints except for the service part. There is absolutely 0 service and support from the showroom side. This is one thing that I can say for sure. This bike would have been the star of electric bikes if they had handled the service part very well. I understand that there is no need for any service, but still, I think they should have some decent customer support.

All the fancy electronic things started becoming trash. That's a big disappointment. The GPS, button keys, etc, are all a waste of money. They provided an upgrade for 4000 Rs, and I was an idiot to upgrade the button based lock and key system. Now everything has been disconnected, and I'm using the tripper to turn on the vehicle and turn off the vehicle. They are now manufacturing the vehicle without this fancy stuff, and I think it is worth it. I would be glad if they could provide an upgrade to existing vehicles too.

There was a time where electric bikes were popular, now they have fallen in disgrace and really few people use them, mostly use the manual bikes, at least here
