The concept of being “owners” and not “users” is still foreign in web3 and that's a problem
I know, it's hard to imagine yourself as an owner of a software you didn't write, but tokenization doesn't require you to write or understand every bit of the code even though it would be a plus, rather, tokenization grants ownership over the code and future direction of the ecosystem.
Everyday I find more proof that people in crypto move around with web2 mindset, whilst seemingly claiming to understand web3.
Maybe, it's the inevitable flaw that comes with literally anything in the world and that's one's source to which information is derived.
The media as a business of advertising, thrives on mostly lies and half-truths as attention bait, this fundamentally ruins the on-boarding of people onto web3 as terms like “users” populates each content passed across, effectively creating universally common ideas that those involved with this technology are simply users.
It's a rather funny realization that many may not think to be a big deal. Imagine this: a ruler stands in front of a crowd and says “ye all are slaves, but you have a say in the politics of the house, so come forth,” would anyone be compelled to believe him and come forth?
Of course not.
Similarly, when we write content on web3 and prioritize the use of words like “users” rather than “owners” we are effectively strengthening the old concept of “owning nothing and being happy.”
I for one is guilty of saying “web3 users” and will have to be more conscious to replace users with “owners.”
Why It Matters
There's a reason bitcoin is the most valuable crypto asset and that's because the network of people it attracts treat it as an “investment” and what is associated with investment?
OWNERSHIP!
A person's investment is a person's own thing. The underlying technology behind bitcoin plays a crucial part in encouraging this behavior but the truth remains that the tech itself is useless if people involved did not take action to approach the network with this “ownership idea”.
It's fundamentally about taking action to leverage the power a system is designed to offer those that “want it” and not necessarily those that need it and the needy mostly remain in need.
Those that want things obsess over them and most times take drastic actions to attain what they want.
It matters that we shift our mindset now and make conscious steps to educate everyone on the ship to do likewise because while many treat themselves as users, those who understand that the power over the system lies in its original design being “tokenization” are employing various ways to acquire necessary influence whilst still benefiting from the seasonal value upswing in the ecosystem.
Might I just say that this is why I was very optimistic about over-collateralized lending that was promised on Polycub as it would have provided an avenue for “owners” to retain platform influence whilst still being able to capitalize on token price movements. Afterall, there is no significant wealth generation in absence of a proper debt management system and leverage strategy.
Hopefully, the recent rumors about a similar service materializes as given the track record of the Hive ecosystem in terms of security of funds, this would be the best network to capitalize on lending markets.
