You can run, walk or crawl but by all means keep moving forward!

When you feel like giving up or you're unmotivated to continue, what keeps you going? Or who?

Discouragement is a an integral part of our lives. Every now and then we face situations that gets us discouraged or makes us want to give up. No one is super human and no one can say that they’ve never been discouraged in life before.

Being discouraged or not a problem but remaining discouraged is and that’s not a good state for anyone to find themselves in. The scriptures says that the spirit of a man would sustain the man but a wounded spirit who can bear.

A wounded spirit is a spirit that has been discouraged to the extent that it doesn’t want to continue again or can’t find the strength to continue. That’s a state that no one should be in cos what happens next is sucicidal thoughts. Yes when discouragement lingers, it can lead to suicide.

I heard the story of a young lady that took sniper two weeks ago. She has already taken two mouthful but was rescued by the people around her who walked in on her trying to take her own life with sniper. When she was asked, she said she was too discouraged to live. She’s 36 and not married and her business and Infact everything in her life is not working. She questioned God and was asking why would God let her life be the way it was. That’s what discouragement can cause.

When I feel like giving up, I talk to avoid first. I tell him everything after all he is my maker. Then, I talk to people I can trust. I seek for help from people who have gone ahead of me. I know that they must have passed through the same phase and overcame. There must be something they know that helped them to overcome the present phase that am in now. I ask them for advice on what to do and how to continue despite the discouraging situation.

A little back story on my hiving journey. I joined hive three months ago and I came enthusiastic to engage and get support but it’s not always how we envisioned it. I saw that I wasn’t getting any supports and it was so discouraging. I didn’t have the motivation to continue. The different hive front ends confused me and I didn’t even know here to start from.

I knew it was time to reach out. Reach out or give up. I reached out to some hiveans and they were kind enough to put me through on some things I should know. That was a turning point in my hive journey. I still have a lot to learn but reaching out in humility is a great way to keep going.

Do not assume you know it all. Reaching out keeps me going. No man is an island and we are built to survive with each other. I was down on Sunday, I reached out to one of my friends and begged her to pray with me. I felt better afterwards.

Another way I keep myself going is that I take a break. When it not working out, I take a break. A good one at that. I take a break to cry and pray and rest. As am taking my break, I’d be telling myself that we need to start again. I don’t know when or how but that constant reminder of needing to start again had a way of getting my mind and body ready to start again.

Some other times, I just keep going. Someone said, whether you are running, walking or crawling, by all means keep moving forward. Right now, am crawling but am definitely not giving up. I take that break, talk to someone, rest if I may but we keep moving because winners never give up and quitters never win. If others can do it, I can, you can, just don’t give up yet.
