The cure within; a lifetime of sacrifice

The menace of cancer in our society and the way it is ripping peoples lives apart is heart wrenching. Just this night, I was online and someone posted on a Whatsap group I belong to that they just lost their mum to cancer. A friend of mine some years ago lost the mum to cancer. A colleague of mine mentioned to me sometime ago about the elder sister is battling breast cancer.

I belong to a platform online on YouTube and the about of cancer cases that are mentioned everyday from people all over the world is crazy. From breast cancer to the cancer of the lungs, to the pancreas, the tongue, blood, prostrate and all manner of cancer. There is no type of strange cancers I have not heard about even to the very aggressive ones like triple negative cancer.

Year in year out people are dying to cancer. The cancer cases are becoming multiplied over time and again. The rate at which the cases are reported these days is very very very alarming. Alot of people battle cancer and before you know what’s happening, cancer is back again. Some are declared cancer free and after some years, the cancer comes back. Some are undergoing chemotherapy while for some the chemo is not working for them.

There was a case of someone that was burnt badly by the chemo. Her entire neck region was black like fire burn due to the chemo. There was another case of someone that passed out from the first dose of chemotherapy and when she was resuscitated, she opted out of the chemo treatment. I am giving this background to show us the extent of damage cancer has done. My heart broke when I heard about the story of a two year old that had chemo and after all that great pain, the chemo failed.

You know how painful it is for adults going through chemo but how much more for a child. The nations are turned upside down running around and looking for a permanent cure for cancer. If by any chance there is something in my gene that can cure cancer, It would be a tale of an eternal sacrifice but it is for humanity. Something that humanity would be grateful for.

It would be like living for others, it’s a life time of sacrifice but what’s the essence of living without impact and value. We would be remembered for the things we did. Our names would be written on the sands of time. If it means being a lab rat just so that the entire mankind can be liberated from the wicked hands of cancer, then it is a sacrifice worth making and I’d do it. For the love of mankind.
