Five minutes free write: Simplicity

Simplicity! A beautiful virtue that’s it underrated. Most persons do not value simplicity or the simple things of life. Maybe because human beings have chosen to be complex or live a complex life style. When something is too simple it’s always mistreated. Humans like to suffer for something so that they can massage their ego to have gotten what they have with hard work.

While life is made sweet by the simplest things of life. I love simplicity and had always been an advocate of living a simple life. I love to dress simply and walk about in my shorts and polo and slippers. I love to laugh and greet people. I love to smile and hope that every thing would be fine.

I love to open my arms to people, to keep my shoulder as a place where people can lean on and cry. I love to put myself in peoples shoes and learn to listen to them and hear what makes them tick, happy or cry. I just believe that life is meant to be simple and not complicated but alas humans can be a lot to handle.

In all my advocacy for simplicity, one thing I have learnt first hand is that people always abuse simplicity. When you appear as an easy going simple person, be ready for the worst treatment from individuals. I for one have had a first hand experience with this so believe me when I tell you that I know what I am saying.

I have worked with junior colleagues of mine in
my work place and I know how as a simple person, I came down to their level and was so free with them. We would laugh and gist and there wasn’t any atom of seniority displayed to them when relating with them but guess what?

They took my simplicity for stupidity. They took it and rubbed it right into my face. It’s so disgusting to see people so insensitive. How do you even insult someone higher than you and show no single remorse?

On one of those simplicity abuse scenarios, the junior colleague has behaved so badly towards me that I just reclined to my shell. Another junior colleague who was higher than the one who misbehaved went to point out his wrong to him but he didn’t even flinch. Well, I know why! What can she do? The other colleague had to go and report the issue to our boss who was mad on hearing what the junior colleague did to me.

He demanded from him to come apologize to me and that was when he finally came to say sorry. What if our boss didn’t ask him to? Well, that’s what being simple does to you. This was not the last time this happened. It has always happened again and again, so I am talking from experience.

Well, that’s what you get from being simple. I feel that human beings tend to be more respectful to people who are mean to them, because they know that they cannot afford to treat them anyhow. But when you are a simple person, they will treat you anyhow, and get away with it.

That’s the iron of life. What can I do? I have told myself that I wouldn’t change who I am, because of what people do. I am a simple person and a simple person I will remain. I love simplicity and that’s my watchword.
