Campus chronicles: A different chapter.
This prompts brings so many thoughts to heart and had me thinking back. Well, the success of anything, project and even life has a lot to do with the foundation. When the foundation is right, a lot can be achieved and also a lot can go wrong when the foundation is wrong. I think my life would really have turned out better if I had gone to a different university. It’s bad enough that my educational foundation in secondary school days wasn’t anything great to write home about. Something that wasn’t the fault of my parents.
Dad ensured he put us in a good school as much as he could afford and what he thought was probably the best may not have been so after all because we were lagging behind in so many subject areas especially mathematics, physics and chemistry. It’s like we literally learnt little or nothing in these subjects and yet we paid our fees in full. This faulty foundation was worsened as I proceeded to the worst university of all times. The lack of infrastructure and the model of learning was so terrible. It’s like going from 1-0.
As soSomeone who got admission to learn chemistry. I knew nothing as to what they were talking about and our practical sessions were mere repetitions or rote learning that leaves you bored and exhausted and wondering what on earth you are doing. Breeding tremendous disinterest that leads to loss of purpose. It would have definitely been different if I attended a better university and more equipped. If I had happened to attend a good university, it would have obviously made up for my loss on the high school. But everything rather deteriorated.
Imagine I was talking to a friend yesterday and he was telling me of how they learnt about unicellular organisms. I was amazed as he told me that he actually saw the very famous unicellular organisms we knew back in the days of biology under the electronic microscope.
He described how he saw the amoeba moving shapelessly, how the paramecium looked liked, chlamydomonas and etc. I was like you actually say them and he said yes. That the secondary school he went to was well equipped to the teeth even more than some universities. Well, the only unicellular organisms I saw were the ones that was drawn for us the black board. The first and last time I ever got to view anything through the microscope was when we were asked to view the back of the onions on the Microscope and saw that it looked like a web or something like that.
Is our status the same? No, he’s obviously ahead in life. Your network becomes your net worth. If I had attended a better and more prominent university, I would had met more prominent people and had better network of high profile individuals which would obviously affect my standard of life but no. We were all a bunch of broke people in the midst of average and brokenness and it was obvious. We had little or nothing to learn. Literally went to school just for the sake of going and nothing tangible to show for it. If I had gotten a better opportunity to be in a better institution and learnt better and meet better members of the society. I would definitely not be where I am today but no hopes are lost.

Yes, although in some places or in some cases there is an environment where if there was another option, something better could have been obtained. I myself believe this and if something has to be done to get something good, it is better to do it. Although we lose and many things happen in life due to other problems and wrong decisions, we are quite happy at present.
