A memorable weekend as a Corp member

It was the start of a glorious day in a new place where I am trying to get familiar with the environment. "Aaaahhh,” yawning from a deep sleep, I got up from bed to prepare spaghetti well garnish for breakfast before going to have my bath and get set for the day activities in school. Every year, National Youth Service Corps members (NYSC) deploy a new set of members for each batch.

Lucky for me, I met a good set of friends who eventually became family along the way. It was fun being in their mist. Most of us are not lucky enough to be placed in the same CDS group, which automatically means we go for CDS on different days. Accommodations given to Corp members were in different locations, but we loved being together. After the day's work, we still get to meet in the evening to play games. The guys teach the ladies how to play PS, and then we start counting scores. It's always fun to be together to talk about important things in life, mostly life after NYSC. I really do enjoy every moment spent with them because I am not lucky to have friends.

It was almost time for my colleague to pass out, and I made suggestions for a get-together. Then preparation started. Due to the fact that we are in a land we know nothing about, I have no idea where we can go to have fun and create a lasting memory. Then I remembered that there is a cute guy among us who lives there and also serves in our organization. I walked up to him and told him of our plans to have a get-together within ourselves as Corp members. We appointed him to check out at a nice place so we can chill out, but all bills will be on you, i.e., individuals will have to pay their bills. That faithful weekend arrived, and we were all dressed, looking so elegant and cute, ready to go to the venue picked for the get-together. Emmanuel has a car, so he came to pick up the ladies. We were all happy to go out to have fun.

Signature is a popular bar known for its standards. The chairs are well placed, and the interior is top-notch and so neat. That feeling of being in a unique place. Hahaha, the waiter didn’t know we were corps members, so we asked to scan the menu list. Unfortunately, the network was not connecting, so we couldn’t see their list of items, not to mention the price attached to them. Besides me were my friends Elizabeth, Nike, Debby, Sofia, Emmanuel, and Louis. Elizabeth ordered chapman, while others ordered rice with beef. Mind you, we didn’t know the price of what we were buying. Elizabeth asked the lady attending to us for the price of her chapman; she said 3000 naira. Immediately, she sent me a message on WhatsApp saying that she didn’t plan for 3000. When I asked her to ask for the price of the food, it was 4000 naira. Immediately, I told her I was holding just 3000 naira, and Sofia said she has just 1000 naira and an allowance from the federal government has not arrived. Double wahala na, we won't get together with one mind; we will all go and drink because we have already placed an order. It’s time for games. Debby organized the game session. We did truth and dare. I was daring several times. Omo, I had to pay the fine of 200 naira because I couldn’t participate in that section of Dare. We all dance, and we dance with joy in our hearts. It was time to go home, and then we all remembered we had a bill to pay. Hahahaha, I tapped Nike and told her to balance my 3000 naira because I didn’t come along with enough cash. She promised to help out. The same goes for Sofia and my dear friend Elizabeth. Debby didn’t plan to buy anything in the first place, but Emmanuel asked her to buy, and the bill would be on him. In the process of gathering our money together so we could pay, Emmanuel paid all our bills, he saved us all from washing plates. Emmanuel saved our asses by paying all our bills for us. God bless Emmanuel always.It's really a weekend to always remember.
