Predestination
Today, I decided to watch a Sci-fi movie. It has been a while since I've watched something from this genre, I didn't want something relating to AI, I wanted something different, and when I came across Predestination I knew it ticked all the boxes of what I was looking for. Also, I kept seeing from the reviews that there was a crazy twist, so I made it my mission for the next hour and a half to discover what the twist was before getting to it. I bring you, Predestination
PLOT
We start off with a detective going on a top-secret mission to stop a terrorist known as the fizzle bomber. During the mission, he gets in trouble and gets burnt beyond recognition. Luckily for him, he survives the incident, and with the help of the state of the art medical facilities, he's given a new face. After he's recovered he is sent on one last mission, to serve in a bar. Or so it seems.
In the bar, he meets John, a very interesting character. They soon get chatting, and John begins to narrate his life story which he claims is going to be the most interesting story he'd ever heard.
MY THOUGHTS
In 2014 AI wasn't really a mainstream thought, so it was interesting to watch a sci-fi without things of that nature. When I watched the trailer I won't lie I had no idea what the movie would even be about. Everything seemed vague, but it just looked like something I'd like so I gave it a chance, and let me say the movie surprised me. The first half of the movie felt weird. I was scratching my head wondering what even is the sci-fi in this movie if half of it is just this, and as though the writers read my thoughts, at exactly the centre of the movie, it takes a quick 180 and everything becomes very exciting very quickly. And as you keep going you get to see that the first half of the movie was like the appetizer and there were so many easter eggs along the way. And as you get closer to the end, you start to piece everything together and it all starts to connect. Then you get to the ending and the realization is a mind fuck. If you're a deep thinker like me it has this crazy feeling. If you've watched the full movie, you can go to any point in the movie and you'll realize why certain things were said, it has this mind boggling effect. I enjoyed it a lot and even thinking about it now has me generating a lot of theories. Feels like I've given my brain a creative spark once more. Also, I was happy that I figured out the plot twist just before it happened.
The movie was top tier in many ways. The effects were very good, the acting superb, the plot, chef's kiss. The plot was so good I knew it had to be an adaptation from a book, and I was correct. It is an adaptation of a book called All you Zombies by Robert Heinlein.
I'd recommend this movie to lovers of science fiction, I'm giving it an 8.5/10
