Rob Thomas has gone solo and released his first album which was named "...Something to Be". After his successful stint as the leader and vocalist of the band Matchbox 20, Rob has the chance to go solo, and he finally did. It can be noted that Rob Thomas has achieved a success outside the band by providing vocals on Santana's megahit "Smooth".

"...Something to Be" wasn't that edgy though, and sounded more pop with R&B sounds and alternative rock, compared to some of the heavy sounds of Matchbox 20. The record was led by the track "Lonely No More" which has more poppy sounds than rock. It became a hit though reaching number 6 in Billboard Hot 100, and had gone platinum in the US. It reached number 11 in UK, more successful than any of his songs with Matchbox 20.

The second single has been "This Is How a Heart Breaks", which became a Grammy nominated song. However, it was a modest hit at the charts reaching number 52 in Billboard Hot 100, though it became a Gold Record. It peaked at number 67 in UK Singles Chart.

Rob Thomas has gone ballad with "Ever the Same" which was a radio hit in the Philippines. The single became a number 48 hit in Billboard Hot 100, and number 33 in US Mainstream chart. It had gone Gold in the country.

The title track "...Something to Be" became the fourth single but primarily in Australia, where it peaked at number 40. "Streetcorner Symphony", being the final single, became a number 64 hit in Billboard Hot 100, while reaching number 37 in US Mainstream chart, where it was certified Gold.

"...Something to Be" the album became a number 1 seller in United States, and had gone double platinum, but certification isn't updated. It reached number 11 in UK, while it was Silver Record.
