Two months, like two years

Hello Friends!!!
Greetings to you all.

I finished my internship on the 18th of March 2024. Prior to the end of my internship, I had already planned my life after it. After my internship, I will quickly go for my one-year compulsory National Youth Service Corps (N.Y.S.C) the following month with the next batch (Batch A stream 2), and I will move ahead with my life.

I did exactly as I had planned, I registered when the NYSC portal was opened, after the registration ended, I started waiting for my call up letter and that waiting period is not always mind settling for some persons like me because you won't know the state at which you will be posted to,almost everyone dread that phase especially if you couldn't do direct posting,(you will pay someone to post you to the state of your choice) and as a medical personnel in Nigeria, the chances that your direct posting will be successful are really slim and during that time I had made my hair, gotten all my materials and clothing I will use at the NYSC camp ready ( stationary, white socks, white T-shirt, white shorts, rubber canvas to mention a few)

Finally, the call-up letter was released. I couldn't find mine on my portal, and I was like, Let me wait till the next morning; probably it will have reflected, so I slept. The next morning, I logged into my portal, and I didn't see anything. What I saw was that I had been moved to the next batch (Batch B stream 1), which would be in the next two months. My heart sank, and I was so devastated. I was really sad that two of my closest friends that we finished internship and registered together saw their call-up letter and were posted to their various states, and here I am; I would have to stay back. Later that day, one of my friends called and asked me and asked how I was. I said that I was fine. She asked again how I really felt, and I started pouring out my heart to her. She started consoling me and encouraging me that it's just a matter of time; two months will soon be over.

I was so unhappy for a long time, and at a point, I was really depressed. Days passed by when one of my very good friends that is dear to my heart called me and noticed that I wasn't vibrant. He asked me what happened, and I narrated everything to him. He also encouraged me; he was always calling to check up on me, trying to pull me out of my depressed state.

One thing I believe is that there are times in life that things don't go the way we planned exactly. It's okay to be down at the moment, but you don't need to remain in that state; at a point, you will have to stand up and continue. A week later, I reached out to one of my bosses to help me look for any place that I could volunteer just to keep myself busy and also gain more knowledge. After a few days, I started volunteering at an NGO in charge of antiretroviral drugs, and with that, I was beginning to shift my focus and energy into gaining new knowledge. Finally, on June 24, 2024, my call-up letter came out, and I was posted to Abia State (an eastern part of Nigeria). On June 27, 2024, I resumed to the NYSC orientation camp at Umunna Bende, Abia State. Thank God I'm finally a Corp member, and I'm six months into it already and still counting.
