Understanding Eid al-Fitr: Happy Eid Mubaraq |

Indonesian Muslims, including in Aceh, celebrated Eid al-Fitr 1446 H on Sunday, March 31, 2025. However, there are also those who have celebrated Eid al-Fitr differently from the government's regulations. It doesn't matter.

Eid al-Fitr is often interpreted as a day of victory after Muslims have fasted for a whole month. In fact, Eid al-Fitr is not just a celebration of victory after a whole month of holding back hunger, thirst, and lust.

More than that, Eid al-Fitr is a momentum to become a new person—a cleaner soul, a more spacious heart, and better behavior. In a deeper meaning, Eid al-Fitr invites us to return to nature, to the pure state in which we were born.

During the month of Ramadan, we have undergone intense spiritual practice. We learn to restrain ourselves, be patient, and increase our worship. We are also encouraged to care more about others, both through zakat and various other forms of goodness. If we have been trying to improve ourselves for a whole month, then Eid al-Fitr is an opportunity to confirm these changes in our daily lives. Starting today and beyond.

However, change is not enough to just be discourse or just a momentary euphoria. Often, after Ramadan passes, good habits that have been built slowly slacken. The spirit of sharing decreases, patience wears thin, and we return to old, less good patterns. Therefore, becoming a new person on Eid al-Fitr means committing to making good values a permanent part of our lives.

One of the first steps is to forgive and apologize sincerely. Eid al-Fitr is synonymous with forgiving each other, both to family, friends, and people we may have hurt, intentionally or not.

By forgiving, we not only free others from mistakes, but also free ourselves from the emotional burden that hinders peace of mind.

In addition, self-reflection is also an important key. What have we improved during Ramadan? What still needs to be improved? Becoming a new person means having the determination to continue to improve ourselves, not only in matters of worship, but also in attitudes and social relationships. Are we more patient? More honest? More empathy for others?

Finally, Eid al-Fitr should be a starting point for a better life. Not just changing into new clothes, but also renewing the heart and mind. Eid al-Fitr teaches that every human being always has the opportunity to change for the better, as long as there is a will and awareness to continue to improve themselves.

So, let's make this Eid al-Fitr a new beginning. Let's bring the spirit of Ramadan into our daily lives, so that the blessings and values of goodness do not only last for one month, but continue to live within us all the time.[]
