Traces of World War II on Anoi Itam Beach Sabang: Travel |
I often vacation to Sabang, which is located on Weh Island and is the westernmost region of Indonesia. Usually, I only play on a number of beaches that are found in Sabang. But this time I was invited to a historical place, a relic of the Second World War.
Welcome to Anoi Itam Beach, Sabang. This is the location of the Japanese defense fort during the colonial era. So, you Japanese tourists, must come to Anoi Itam Beach, Sabang to see the remains of the Japanese army, besides enjoying its beautiful beach.
Unfortunately, tourists cannot swim at Anoi Itam Beach Sabang because it is not safe. This beach faces directly onto the Indian Ocean with deep sea water and big waves. It is very unsafe for swimming.
At Anoi Itam Beach Sabang there is a cannon at Anoi Itam Fort, Sabang, which is a cannon left over from Japan. This cannon is about 3 meters long. This cannon is the main attraction for visitors to take pictures.
The cannon at Anoi Itam Fort is located inside the main fort which is shaped like a horseshoe. This cannon is a silent witness to the struggle of the Japanese army to survive the enemy during World War II. Anoi Itam Fort was built between 1942-1945.
Anoi Itam Fortress functioned as a place of protection and defense for Japanese troops in the sea area. The fort faces directly to the sea, offering a stunning view of the sea. There is an underground tunnel along the coast as a defense fort.
The road to Anoi Itam Beach Sabang is very exotic, like entering an endless labyrinth. On one side it is covered with rocks and on the right side with trees with strong and large roots.
I am not surprised why Japan chose Anoi Itam Beach Sabang as a defense fort. In addition to being strategic because it directly faces the Indian Ocean, the place is also sturdy and beautiful.
Don't forget to go to Anoi Itam Beach Sabang when visiting Sabang. This beach is located in Ujong Kareung Village, Sukajaya District, Sabang City or about 12 kilometers from the center of Sabang City to the east.[]
