Mac and the Alarm

As I said in an earlier post, law enforcement gets many alarm calls. Often such calls are nothing mischievous but every once in a while a misdeed is actually happening.

One day at the end of the shift I got an alarm call at a business complex. This complex mostly served as an office building with nothing worthwhile to steal, but the alarms would always go off in this area for one reason or another.

As I approached the building I could see a man standing in the parking lot taking selfies in front of his car. I jumped out of my car and my attention was drawn by what he was wearing… and by what he wasn’t swearing. The man was tall, about 6’2 or 6’3. He had on skinny jeans, a black pea coat with no shirt on, and his face was covered in makeup.

As soon as he saw me he began to wave. “Hi, Officer.” He called out with way too much excitement given the situation. We introduced ourselves and he said that his name was Mac. I asked Mac what he was doing at a closed business. “Well, I work for a makeup store.” Mac then stopped talking and began to do a series of poses. When I didn’t respond, Mac asked “aren’t I cute?” I just continued to stare at him.. Mac cleared his throat and then continued “so uh I thought I looked cute so I came here to take some photos.” “Why is the alarm going off?” I asked Mac. “Oh, I thought it was a really cool building so I tried to open the door. The door was locked but I still pulled on it a few times to see if I could force it open and then gave up.” Mac said.

“Mac… you tried to break into a building … to take a picture?” I asked Mac. “Uhh yeah. But I wasn’t going to steal anything.” Laughed Mac. By the way, Mac also had a suspended license and he told me he drove here. Of course, I had to do my job and had to take him in. Mac began to cry when I arrested him and as It turned out it was revealed that he was also recently released from jail.

I saw Mac a few months later and he apologized for what happened. He then made a promise that he would no longer try to break into buildings when he felt “cute”.
