My favorite subjects in sec school
My favorite subject in secondary school.
Well, I was an art student in school, and we all know how people thought all art subjects were simple and practically a walk in the park, but they didn't know how we struggled with these so called easy subjects.
Do we talk about history and government where we get to cram dates of events which happened way before we were even born. Or how we had to remember names of people when they came to power, how long they lasted, what they did and almost everything about them in one head o, and yet you call art subjects easy?? Trust me we had our bad days with being art students. Well amongst all the difficulties I still enjoyed my Literature-in-English and my English Language.
Apart from the fact that I loved reading books which was one of my attractions to that subject, I was more drawn to it by the lady who taught the subject. She was so dramatic about it, it was how she made every text we read really relatable and enjoyable, she made the class extremely interesting plus the fact that she had an interesting personality. The way she came to class with drama made me look forward to her period every single time. I slept in most of my classes o but once it came to literature, I was always wide eyed. Apart from her making the subject interesting, I loved the subject in itself, how I could give my own interpretation to life itself, how life could be seen through literature, it was a mirror to which I could see peoples lives. I didn't need to be them to understand what they went through, it was indeed a mirror of life and a lense into lives and I enjoy that, this fascinated me into wanting to know more and I just had this love for literature, I think that was how I got to really enjoy the subject, because of its fascinating feelings. Another sweet thing I enjoyed about literature then was how there could never be two exact answers to a question in literature and you can't even copy a literary work because it's all about creativity and your very own understanding, it was then I got to believe that two people can't have the same interpretation for one thing cause we are bound to see life differently. And you can't even fail literature, cause you're being expected to give what you understand and your understanding and reasoning can't be false cause that's how you understand. But then again you have to defend your answer well. I got to know in literature that even though something is white, I can say that thing is black due to the perspective to which I'm seeing it from and how convincing I can be. And I can even convince someone who once saw white to see black as well or better still understand where I am coming from. So you see literature is just a beautiful escape.
The whole simile, metaphor, apostrophe, paradox, oxymoron, pun, onomatopoeia, etc is another beautiful aspect of literature that I find very intriguing. How you say something but it carries a whole there meaning. There's actually a lot to literature that makes it beautiful and I'm glad to say even if it was only for literature, I'm glad I was an art student.
Then you see English Languageeeee... Mehnnn I love vocabulary, I love how complex the subject is. The technicality of the subject is just amazing. People thought it was actually a very simple subject but to me it was even way harder than maths. Cause even as little and irrelevant as you think a punctuation mark might be, it could cost you your passing that subject. I love how every other subject was linked to English in one way or the other. Through English I got to develop my vocabulary and I'm liking it. Till date, I still enjoy literature and English so much.
I actually wanted to study law but as fate will have it, I studied English language and majored in literature and I'm glad I did.
We all looked forward to literature classes as students. I looked forward to owning a new novel. Only Shakespeare bored me to ends.
Lol, yeahhhh... I think the Shakespeare's text I liked was Othello, and that was because we even acted it out in class for better understanding, that was how I understood it.
I love English Language as well although I don't speak it fluently, I know some more practice here and there will help me get better in my vocabularies, but until then, I'll keep chewing it like that..lol
Lol. Yhhh, practice sure does makes perfect, and you loving it doing most of the work to speaking it fluently. We are all still on a learning journey with this English thing, as no be our papa language 😂. Thanks for reading sir
