A visit to the orphanage

I have always wondered how people without parents actually survive. It's something I still wonder till today cause tell me how people with parents struggle and still find it difficult to cope with life, not to talk of those who are orphans.

Well, my cds group (editorial and publicity group) decided to visit the orphanage on Monday, which was the day for our cds meeting. That day was to be dedicated to those lovely kids and trust me when I say it was a Monday we'll spent.

The name of the orphanage which we visited was Facado orphanage home, located in karu local government area, Nasarawa state.

The preparation for this outreach started earlier this month with Corp members being asked to make their hearty contributions which everyone did with joy. A set of people went to the market the week before to get the items needed for this outreach and despite the burning of the harsh sun, it was done with smiles and laughter, cause why not? Few items were purchased in accordance with the statics of children given to us by the management of the home.

The said day arrived and we were all to gather at the secretariat, which we did and from there at about 10am we started our walk in unity down to the home. A place we were told wasn't far was what we ended up walking almost 40mins(it was for the kids so it was worth it). We got to the home, took group pictures with our supervisor before we knocked on the gate and it was opened. We went in and the beautiful kids were all seated and waiting 😩😩. We settled down ourselves and started the meeting since we were already short on time as it was.

One of the children was asked to give us an opening prayer which she beautifully did and the president took the Muslim prayer. We then sang the national anthem followed by the NYSC anthem. We got to know the names of the children and their future aspirations, it was so beautiful having to hear how these kids had so much hope and believe in the future. My prayer for them right from that moment was for Nigeria not to happen to them and that they fulfilled purpose.

The president and an exco spoke to them about personal hygiene and they listened so well. To ease the whole learning, a game was played by some Corp members and the children, which one of the kids won. After that the vice president of the cds group gave her talk on sexual abuse which was followed by the kids being taught a song on knowing their private/sensitive parts and why no one should touch or see them. The gifts were handed over to the home and they really appreciated it. The sweetest moment for me was when they prayed for uss😭😭😭 they prayed we get good jobs at the end of our service year and we get good life partners 🤭. Before we dismissed the children were given refreshments before we went out to take the final set of pictures before calling it a day. Children are indeed a blessing from God and spending time with these orphans taught me life in another dimension. I can't wait to do this again.
