We Need It But With A Balance

It took me a while to understand this prompt and look into the angle to approach it. I believe that where there is no law, there is no sin because if nothing stands against you that you've done wrong then you're right. There is no offender in a lawless state.

I think both ethics and morals should be considered when making laws in a country. Taking Nigeria my country for example, I can understand that we have divers cultures, religion and the likes but looking deep, we all share almost the same morals. Killing is wrong to all, taking what does not belong to you is wrong to all, and so many others like that.

Where will the law come from if not considering ethics and morals. The law must be put together by considering our values as a people, our ethics and morals as a people. After putting them together we can then make laws from the things generally accepted as wrong doing.

As we all know and like I stated earlier, there is no offender in a lawless state. If there is no law, there is no sin. If anyone commit an offence, they should be dealt with based on the gravity of their sins by so doing there will be order and the people will act accordingly.

I don't think Just because something isn't ethical or moral, it should be deemed illegal but at the same time, it should be thoroughly looked into so that it will not stand as a yard stick for crime to be committed in future. There are so many cases of the things people do that is not considered as crime but has given birth to crime of various degrees.

I am still of the opinion that people don't have the right to just act the way they want to or just do whatever they please claiming no crime was committed and no one gets hurt. Our actions and activities must be morally backed up that is why I believe that our laws must be carefully carved from our ethics and morals. This will curb those useless acts of people in society.

We have heard of laws born from religion practiced in the north at a time. I don't think it is still being practiced today but they were really strict laws that if one could as little as steal, the punishment could be to chop off the person's hand and so on like that. These may be too extreme but I believe it must have gone a long way to bring sanity and reduce crime to the minimum.

My own opinion concerning this topic is that ethics and morals must be considered when making laws in a country. This will help to curb and create morally upright individuals. if not, we will have morally bankrupt individuals roaming the street. With such individuals, crime is inevitable.

Nah, I still think there are still some places in Nigeria even with morals to justify killing and many more horrible things. Tbh this is a really complicated topic 😂

This topic is quite technical but it takes the mind deeper to understand a lot of views about the laws and morals.

I believe that our laws must be carefully carved from our ethics and morals.

I agree to this, the law must ne ion relation to the ethics and morals for peace and unity.

I really love the way you broke this thing down. Most of our laws came from different cultures and religions and they were carefully picked considering morality and ethics. This is why even those without religion can still do what is right, imagine law and ethics are out? We would have a lawless society and only God knows how that of community would look like.

Just like you said and I agree with you... common values like respect for life and property actually transcends cultures. A balance is needed between individual freedom and the society's wellness.

Thanks for sharing.

To avoid tribal argument I wouldn't mention names but there are places in the north where people from other religions are being prosecuted. This is the issue with ethics, it is based on a group perception of a subject, what is wrong in a region might be right in another region.

Law is all about doing the right thing but ethics is about doing the right thing the right way. For example, if someone says Something bad about a specific religion, it doesn't really warrant being killed.

Hmmm
Looking at it from that angle I agree with you and that is why I said with a balance.
This subject is quite deep...
