Hello everyone, this time I will be participating in this Splinterlands Challenge, where I will be showing you a battle in the modern ranked league, one of which, only ranged units can be summoned.

Since the mana limit for this battle is 25, I decided to use Wave Brood and Angelic Mandarin, two chaos units that work well together, especially against ranged units.

Wave Brood is great against ranged units as it has the Return Fire ability, which deals 50% damage to those units when they attack it. Thanks to its Taunt ability, the enemy backline units will be forced to attack it.

And to make sure that Wave Brood can stay in the fight for more turns, I will put it in the backline, so Angelic Mandarin can heal it thanks to its Triage ability, allowing it to heal a backline unit for one third of its max health each turn.

For this defensive combo to work, Angelic Mandarin must be at least level 4, so that it can gain the Triage ability.

Wave Brood has the Taunt ability at level 1, but to return damage to ranged units it needs to be at level 6, where it gains the return fire ability.

BATTLE

There is only one modifier active in this battle. The Going the Distance modifier, as I mentioned at the beginning, will only allow units with ranged attacks to enter the battlefield.

In this battle I decided to use the dragon summoner, Quix the Devious, which will reduce the ranged attack and speed of the enemy units by 1.

I put Angelic Mandarin in the first position, because I assumed the opponent also wanted to use Wave Brood, and to make sure that its Return Fire ability doesn't damage my Angelic, I put it in the frontline, so it can't attack it.

Wave Brood in the second position, in case the enemies defeat my Angelic first, Wave will be in the frontline position.

To further reduce the ranged attack of the enemy units, I play Mar Toren Trader in the third position. Then I summon Elanor Bravefoot since she costs 0 mana.

Gem Meteor will be in the fifth position, I decided to choose it, so that it can ignore the possible taunt from enemy units, and attack the other enemy units since it has the Scattershot ability.

Finally, Igor Darkspear, who has a 50% chance to stun the enemy unit, preventing it from attacking or using any abilities.

In the first round, all units except the frontline units were damaged, but none were defeated.

In the second round, the enemy Xenith Archer and my Elanor Bravefoot are defeated due to Wave Broods' Return Fire ability.

In the third round, Gem Meteor defeats the enemy Naga Assassin.

In the fourth round, no unit is defeated. But in the fifth round, Gem Meteor finishes off the enemy Angelic Mandarin, so now it's only a matter of time before the enemy Wave Brood is defeated, as it can no longer heal. After that, both Igor Darkspears are defeated due to Wave Broods' return fire ability.

In the sixth round, the enemy Wave Brood is finally destroyed by Mar Toren Trader. And in the eighth round, Gem Meteor ends the battle by destroying Mar Toren Seeker.

Full Battle

In this battle, the opponent also used the same combo as me, Wave Brood to force units to attack it and Angelic Mandarin to heal it, but I put them in a better position than my opponent.

The enemy Angelic was able to attack my Wave Brood, and thus took damage from the return fire, while my Angelic was peacefully in the frontline position unable to attack, but fulfilling its support role, healing my Wave Brood.

Because of this, as the turns passed, the enemy Angelic was progressively taking damage, while mine was at full health, and that's why I had a greater advantage in this battle. Gem Meteor was also very useful, as it is unaffected by the Taunt effect, allowing it to attack randomly, giving it a chance to take out weaker units, and hopefully the support units.

Positioning is very important in Splinterlands battles. As you've seen in this battle, a simple change can turn the battle in your favor or put your units in a dangerous condition. This time my positioning was better and that's why I won.

That's all for now guys, if you haven't played Splinterlands yet, you can join with my referral link. See you on the battlefield!
