Money: A Tool for Happiness or a Trap for the Soul?
Hello again my lovelies. Today I thought it would be fun to tackle the age-old question - does money buy you happiness? I have several thoughts on the matter that I think you'll find interesting. We'll cover the topic from multiple angles, so regardless of which side of the fence you stand on, you should find something useful to ponder over.
MATERIALISTIC
If material things grant you happiness then the answer is simple, no? More things mean more happiness! But what we've seen through the years is that the richest people in the world are all depressed or suffer from anxiety and uncertainty. They aren't happy, but they can buy anything and everything they want.
Certainly, if you are just buying things you want then there will come a time when you've bought everything you've wanted. And then what? But more things, of course! I think you can see where I'm going with this.
Happiness resides in a realm of its own. It does not belong in the physical realm in which we live. And materialistic needs reside solely in the physical, so the disconnect becomes apparent.
Now, there is more to this than I've let on. I'm not being fully idealistic here either. Having money is definitely better than not having it. But how we choose to spend it is the real key here. Although you could make the argument that the poorest people in the world are the most happy because they are not bogged down by the abstraction of capitalism. That is certainly a point.
Another argument would be that money buys the possibility of happiness. That it allows for you and the ones you love to be taken care of. The fast car and diamond watch might not make you happy, but an early retirement for your mother just might. An endless supply of food and medicine, not having to wont for anything ever. Yes, that just might.
SPIRITUAL
So money does buy happiness? Like I said - it's complicated. For one thing, I think the obsession with money has polluted us as a society. As humans. We no longer care about our fellow man, but about making a quick buck. About climbing the ladder and pushing anyone and everyone we meet along the way down. The less competition the better, right?
It's all in our mindset, our spirit. We could use the money we have to lift everyone up, instead of using it to acquire more money. Money is never-ending. It is an unquenchable thirst that will drown you in its enormity. You have to bottle it. Let it be a healthy part of your diet. Anything in excess, and I do mean anything, is bad for the spirit.
Human connection buys happiness. Tooogetherment and love and caring for one another. Not being delusional by what the world feeds you. Take care of yourself, your loved ones, and everything else second. The world can seem like such a massive place, with all its issues and inequalities. At the end of the day, we are all human. Things don't need to be so complicated.
Money is a tool and should be used as such. Like any tool, it could harm you. Hammer could be used to bash someone's head in, but it could also be used to build something. Money is not a magic pill that fixes all your problems, but it could - if you use it wisely.
Money is an inevitable part of life. All of us need it, all of us want it to some extent. Trouble is when people get it they don't know what to do with it. And when they don't magically become happy they get depressed even more. Such is life when you only focus on the climb, instead of the steps we're taking.
Money cannot buy peace of mind. Now ask yourself, what's more important?
Thank you so much for reading! I hope I wasn't too preachy. 😅 Love and light! We are all built differently and our values and views reflect that. That doesn't mean we cannot love and respect and support each other along the way.
