Honor In Money: The Concept Of Stinginess
Honor. A term seldom used these days. Most people prescribe Honor to a time long past. When knights fought for the privilege of marrying noble ladies. When someone's word was actually worth something. Ah, to be young, and to dream.
In truth, Honor never existed. It is a fable. A mist that intoxicated us into thinking we are good. Noble. We are no such things, as darkness follows each and every one of us. As does goodness. As does a code.
Thus we must draw lines and prove to the universe that our way is the only way! We scream, we fight, we ponder. Until our throat is hoarse and our mind is lax. But who wants that all the time? I don't...
So! With unnecessary tribalism put to the side and beliefs set on hold - we will discuss the vague and tumultuous concept of Honor in Money.
🔷 I feel it important to say when it comes to this topic: there are no right or wrong answers when it comes to money.
Everyone has their own philosophy and that is completely fine. Our philosophies and ways of thinking are derived from our upbringing and experiences. These are things wholly unique to us. And unique things are precious. So never put those things aside. However, as capable and functioning adults, you and I can discuss concepts and viewpoints without getting our pajamas in a bunch. Because why not?
HONOR OF "BEING STINGY"
In truth, stingy is such a crude, unsophisticated word. A more gentlemanly way of saying it would be to be frugal. Or even mayhaps cautious? Paranoid? Greedy? Ambitious? Smart? Dumb? All of these words could be used to describe such a person, hence my previous statement.
Money is money. Most often people associate their own wants and desires with money, transcribing the commodity into something more. When in truth, money is just a tool, and its applications and reasonings could warry as much as a person's face.
Let's go through several statements and counter-statements:
- Saving money could prove beneficial if you are a dreamer. If you seek riches and a life that you currently don't possess. You need capital, however small or great, to start just about anything. So saving money to build said capital could be the right move.
- Should that come at the cost of living your life? Of your friends and loved ones? How much is a dream worth?
- Your worth could be tied to money - it is a form of power, after all. It could lessen the lives of your favorites. Risking it on ventures could prove devastating.
- Money is not power - but a form, that sometimes is shapeless. And risk is a necessity for breaking through the mist and traveling to the stars.
- You're money is yours, why should you share it? You've worked hard for it your entire life. Ups and downs, trials upon trials. It's all fallen on your shoulder. There is sense in counting your coins, making sure no one is taking advantage of you.
- What is the point of making it alone? There is a reason behind the saying "It's lonely at the top" - when nobody wants to be alone. You either make it with someone, or you are doomed to live a life of solitude and empty rooms. Better a few fewer coins, you pay those for peace of mind.
Again, there is no right answer here. However, I hope you found some food for thought into the many different perspectives one might have when you bestow upon him the title of stingy.
I hope you all enjoyed this write-up! 😌 Next well will go into detail about the Honor of being generous. As well as other minutia. I hope you stay tuned!
