A Journey to Ancient Egypt in the Heart of Caracas / Un viaje al antiguo Egipto en el corazón de Caracas

The recent International Book Fair of Caracas, with Egypt as the guest of honor, brought an ancient and deeply moving treasure: an exhibition of ancient Egyptian art, housed in the halls of the National Art Gallery, the very epicenter of the fair.

La reciente Feria Internacional del Libro de Caracas, con Egipto como país invitado de honor, trajo consigo un tesoro antiguo y profundamente conmovedor: una exposición de arte del antiguo Egipto, alojada en las salas de la Galería de Arte Nacional, el mismo epicentro de la feria.

It was, without exaggeration, a genuine luxury—an unexpected privilege to stand before authentic antiquities that crossed oceans and millennia to converse with us, the Caracas residents of the 21st century. The exhibition was a tangible window into one of the most fascinating and exotic cultures for the Western eye, a civilization that continues to evoke awe and mystery.

Fue, sin exagerar, un auténtico lujo. Un privilegio inesperado el poder estar frente a auténticas antigüedades que cruzaron océanos y milenios para dialogar con nosotros, los caraqueños del siglo XXI. La exposición era una ventana tangible a una de las culturas más fascinantes y exóticas para el ojo occidental, una civilización que sigue despertando asombro y misterio.

Perhaps the most breathtaking were paintings that retained colors and strokes with incredible vitality, despite having been created three, four, even five thousand years ago.

Quizás lo más sobrecogedor, pinturas que conservaban colores y trazos con una vitalidad increíble, a pesar de haber sido creadas hace tres, cuatro, incluso cinco milenios.

For a history and photography enthusiast like me, this exhibition was a double gift. Seeing these wonders here, in Caracas, amid the bustle of the fair, was truly an unforgettable experience.
