Najnowsza część cyklu o parze detektywów z Londynu - przeczytano. Znalazłam ją przypadkiem w bibliotece, na półce NOWOŚCI, i szybko ogarnęłam sobie wersję na Kindle, bo ja to jak już pisałam, czytam po ciemku, na czytniku, żeby nie budzić dzieci. I powiem tak: po rewelacyjnych! poprzednich częściach ta... rozkręcała się baaaaardzo długo.

The latest installment in the series about a pair of London detectives – read. I found it by chance at the library, on the NEW ARRIVALS shelf, and quickly grabbed the Kindle version, because, as I've mentioned, I read in the dark, on an e-reader, so as not to wake the kids. And let me tell you: after the fantastic previous installments, this one... took a looooong time to get going.

Śmiem stwierdzić, że na dobre wciągnęła mnie po dobrych 50%. Potem było już bardzo ciekawie, a końcówka dowozi co trzeba i ogólne wrażenie po lekturze jest jak najbardziej na wow - ale mam świadomość, że przez pierwszą połowę brnęłam, i często korzystałam z lupki na Kindle, żeby sobie odszukać, kto był kim, i o co chodziło. Tak więc po rewelacyjnej "Wartkiej Śmierci" i "Sercu jak smoła" tu było stanowczo mniej rewelacyjnie, ale wciąż dobrze.

I dare say I was hooked after a good 50% of the way through. Then it got really interesting, and the ending really delivered, and the overall impression after reading it was absolutely wow – but I'm aware that I struggled through the first half, often using the magnifying glass on my Kindle to figure out who was who and what was going on. So, after the fantastic "Wartka Śmierć" and "Serce jak smola", this one was decidedly less fantastic, but still good.

Wątek kryminalny jest z początku skomplikowany, ale potem faktycznie zagadka jest fajna do rozwikłania. A przy tym brudna i brutalna. Z kolei nieco zadziwia wątek pary detektywów. Ostatnia część dawała nutkę nadziei na szczęśliwe zakończenie, przynajmniej ja się na to nabrałam. A tu w "Naznaczonym" oboje zachowują się względem siebie nie tak, jak powinni, biorąc pod uwagę ich znane czytelnikom uczucia. I ten wątek uczuciowy czyta się nieźle, z napięciem, już od pierwszych stron.

The crime storyline is complicated at first, but then it actually becomes a fun mystery to solve. It's also gritty and brutal. The storyline of the detective pair is a bit surprising. The last installment offered a glimmer of hope for a happy ending, at least I was fooled. And here in "Insidious," the two behave toward each other in ways they shouldn't, considering their familiar feelings. And this emotional arc is a compelling read, gripping and tense from the very first pages.

The case of an unidentified victim will put Robin and Cormoran to the ultimate test. Who does the mutilated body found in the vault of a silver shop belong to? The police claim to know the victim's identity. Meanwhile, a woman who contacts the Strike and Ellacott Detective Agency is convinced it's the body of her boyfriend, who disappeared, leaving her with an infant. She asks for help confirming his identity. Initially, Cormoran is reluctant to accept the assignment, but changes his mind when he realizes the investigation could help him get closer to Robin. The fact that the shop specializes in Masonic silverware adds a new, mysterious twist to the case. Furthermore, it turns out that several missing men match the victim's profile. The investigation becomes as complicated as Cormoran's relationship with Robin. She seems increasingly involved in her relationship with her current boyfriend, and Strike is ready to confess his feelings.
