🎸Ashlee’s Three Tune Tuesday! Kick Ass Women In Early Nineties Alternative Rock Bands! Belly/Slowdive/Breeders! 1990 & latest 1992 Look At Bands Who Didn’t Get The Credit They Deserved! 🎶

On this #ThreeTuneTuesday I focus on bands in the early nineties alternative scene with rad women musicians in the band! Mostly on vocals but some it’s a joint gig with a guy singer too, I showcase lesser known alternative rock tunes on this Three Tune Tuesday! I also haven’t been posting much on Nineties Friday so thought I’d go full Nineties For TTT Today!

First up it’s the band The Breeders

And there 1990 released tune “Doe” from the 1990 record “ The Breeders”. They had an alt rock radio hit on there second album in 1993 but this album from 1990 went under the table at time of release.

Second up it’s the band Belly!

And the 1992 released single “Feed The Tree”
From the 1992 album “Star”. Another lesser known early nineties group, although this song did get some light radio & MTV coverage.

Third up it’s the band Slowdive!

And the 1993 tune “Alison” from the record “ Souvlaki”. Slowdive was in the same vibe as early Smashing Pumpkins but didn’t get the same mainstream success. Unlike the first two picks, Slowdive wasn’t just a female singer but included two vocalists a guy & lady. But her voice and instrumental performance is well worth mentioning!

Fourth up or “Bonus Tune” it’s the band Sonic Youth

And there 1988 tune “ Teen Age Riot” from the 1988 album “ Daydream Nation”. Even though this one’s a good 18 months prior to the Nineties, this band is responsible for influencing so many nineties bands and even are the band who told there label to sign Nirvana! Yes literally this band was on major label Geffin and kept telling the label to sign Nirvana! That alone makes them nineties royalty! But beyond that there music influenced so many alternative rock bands to come they get a pass on this tune being late eighties!

The front Women from Sonic Youth (Kim Gordon) even performed with the members of Nirvana at the 2016 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame performing a classic Nirvana tune with the band as she was on vocals! Check it out here ⬇️
