👨‍💻 ASEAN Hive Is Back Online 📡 The USA Sucks, A Death In The Family & Now We Are Refugees 🤷‍♂️

Greetings ASEAN Hivers, @JustinParke here with an ASEAN Hive Community update that is actually more of a personal life update than anything else.

👨‍💻 ASEAN Hive Is Back Online 📡

featured authors receive 10% post beneficiary

Where do I begin? I haven't posted from my personal @justinparke blog since September of last year, and back then I was feeling overwhelmed with life, negative, and didn't really want to let my blog turn into a space where I vent about my anxiety, depression, and all the horrible things that have come as a result of my family and I simply trying to go to the USA for a visit. We have arrived in the USA, and if you are one of the few people that actually read these curation posts, you might already know that.

$1

8 years of pursuing US visas as basically a full-time job has taken a toll on my mental health, physical health, and has resulted in the loss of our life savings and thousands of hours of lost productivity that could've been spent earning and saving for my family's future. Long story short, we gave up on US visas and bought land in the Cardamom Mountains of Cambodia, and I had hoped to put all this trauma behind me and focus on a better life with my family.

I couldn't help, however, still pursuing US visas because there will still 6 months left before expiration, and besides we had already wasted most of our adult working years on this thing, and much to my surprise after some failed interviews and countless technical glitches, we received US visas with only two months to use them before expiration despite being promised 6 months to destroy our lives in preparation for a visit to the USA.

We barely got out of the country on time, and the day we arrived here my stepdad had a heart attack, nearly died, and since then my wife and I have been full-time 24/7 caregivers, housekeepers, and landscapers. We haven't relaxed or had a real day off until now, and only because my stepdad died, but I'll save those details for future posts. Also, we have been displaced from our land because the Thai Navy is shelling our village, F-16 airstrikes are common too, the bridge to our town and school was destroyed, and Thmor Da is a ghost town now.

The highschool was hit by a missile and destroyed, and there is little video footage coming out because our area is so underpopulated and not the main focus of Cambodia's defense efforts. Our village is a Cambodian military outpost nearly 40 minutes from the border, but regardless it's likely most of the men in our village are now dead. There is also word that Thai soldiers are on the ground now near our village, so it's not even known if we'll be able to legally return to our home ever.

A Collection Of Worthy Posts For You To Enjoy While Here

I am not taking any rewards from this post, just giving it all back to you guys and 2 or 3% leftover for the curation account. My apologies for being offline, but now things are looking better.

Helping rehabilitate..... a monkey!

by: @kbv.animalwelf

(ᴇxᴄᴇʀᴘᴛ) Helping monkeys is definitely not something I would normally participate in. I don't know enough about them to be helpful and they are also quite wild and potentially very dangerous. A lot of people traveling to Thailand make the mistake of thinking that monkeys are cute little friends to get selfies with and many of those same people end up with horrible bits and scratches from the monkeys who are known to "freak out" and lash out at anyone or anything that is nearby them.

A Mall Full of Choices: One Shawarma Story

by: @vinzie1

(ᴇxᴄᴇʀᴘᴛ) In the Robinson's there were lots of stalls, stores that you can buy and everywhere in the place, there will be stalls that has food in it. What's even awesome is that every floor has different food stalls that they were selling from the ground floor up until to the fourth floor of the building. Before that happens, I went to the Robinson's Place last Sunday and I went here alone because my family were not interested on going to the City and I left no choice because I need to go to the city to buy some Gifts for my colleagues, loved ones, and my friends.

Zenbu: A Japanese Restaurant

by: @viviehardika

(ᴇxᴄᴇʀᴘᴛ) This is the first time I've heard of this Japanese restaurant. I don't know how many Japanese restaurants there are in Indonesia, as they're usually not evenly distributed—I mean, not in every mall. This time, I stopped at a mall in southern Tangerang, and my friend recommended this place. She'd been there before, so I just went with her. Apparently, Zenbu is a casual Japanese restaurant that has been in the Indonesian F&B scene for two decades.

Our First Christmas in the Countryside...

by: @tegoshei

(ᴇxᴄᴇʀᴘᴛ) We moved to the countryside exactly a week before Christmas, and since we're busy with the move and all, I didn't really expect much. However, it was more fun and productive than I expected. Sadly, I couldn't spend it with my cousins and aunts. Godwyn and his mom live even farther away from us. Although Nicole and her family live in the next municipality, they're also holding a party because she just got her teacher's license.

My Simple and Peaceful Christmas Celebration

by: @straykat

(ᴇxᴄᴇʀᴘᴛ) Merry Christmas, everyone! How's the family reunion, spaghetti, and grahams? Lol. I hope your tummies were filled with delicious foods and didn't become the target by your insensitive titas and titos giving unsolicited advices. My celebration this year was rather simple and earlier. Most would wait around midnight (Christmas Eve) to feast on their foods which I would usually do as well. But this time, I cooked early and started eating early evening so I could rest and only eat a snack at midnight.

24 hours Hypermarket

by: @luueetang

(ᴇxᴄᴇʀᴘᴛ) Hi hi.. later I am heading to the airport, and tomorrow I am flying into Hong Kong. Today is the eve of Christmas. Woo Hoo. Going to see what it looks like during Christmas in Hong Kong. There is a new supermarket here in Miri, and it is a strong competitor to all those other supermarkets here in Miri. This is the first 24 hour supermarket here in Miri. This is one of Sarawak's own brands. This is one of the most popular places to shop for groceries.

No one ever hears about that news. I am totally blown away. Thank god you guys are safe. What a tragedy. I can imagine how the US would suck. Canada also sucks, but I'm stuck here.

I wish you and your family the best

oh, my! What news. I knew everything except that your stepdad passed away. And I knew nothing about the current conflict between Cambodia and Thailand. 😯 That certainly puts a big wrinkle into everything. BUT, perhaps your family is safe simply because of this visit to the US...? I can't imagine what you could have done if you were over there in Steung Kach when the fighting started. ☹️ Thoughts & prayers for you and your lovely family! 🙏

I’m sorry for the unfortunate things that happened in your life and to your family.

It’s really sad about your land there. I read your posts before, especially when you built a cabin near the river. It’s heartbreaking to think about the money that was spent on that. I truly hope that everything will turn out okay in the end @justinparke.

First of all, I pray for the peace of your stepfather's soul. This is very sad news that breaks my heart. I hope to God that you will be able to return to your homes very soon. Thank you for sharing today's beautiful selection of 7 posts. However, the battlefield is a difficult journey. I am certainly praying for the caution of all of you.
