The Story of BYD
Do you know the story behind BYD?
To know about BYD you need to know about its founder Wang Chuanfu who plays a key role in the success of BYD as we know it right now.
This Chinese chemist created a $100 billion company which is now kinda beating Tesla. Meet Wang, who went from studying chemistry to running a battery research lab in Beijing. In 1985, with just a $30,000 loan from his cousin, he moved to Shenzhen and started BYD, revolutionizing battery production by using human labor instead of expensive machines.
This was when WANG came up with his boldest move, while everyone opposed it, Wang bought a failing car company in 2003. He bought 50 second-hand cars, took them apart, and learned how to make EVs. The legendary Charlie Munger spotted this potential early, investing through Lilu's Himalaya Capital in 2002, calling Wang a genius who works 70 hours a week.
His game-changer was the blade battery, a revolutionary design that packed lithium-ion phosphate into a blade shape, allowing better cooling and more power than traditional batteries. In fact, Tesla also uses this battery technology. Today, BYD has surpassed Tesla as the world's largest EV manufacturer. From three random letters to building your dreams, that's what vision looks like.
I don't know about you but this story does sound very interesting and I can't wait to see the future of BYD.
