Potential Cut in Car Import Taxes

Guys, your dream Mercedes, BMW and Audi might finally become affordable and go down drastically. And that is because India is considering a massive car import tax cut from 100% to just 10%. This is most definitely a huge tax relief towards the foreign car makers who have been trying to do business in India for the longest of times.

Now, under a new EU trade deal, India may slash these hefty tariffs in stages, despite strong resistance from our local car manufacturers and its no secret that this is the reaction towards the Trump effect.

But this is not all Sunshine and Roses as Indian car makers like Tata and Mahindra are fighting hard to keep tariffs at a minimum 30% to protect their investments as they would most definitely incur some massive losses while the final tariff is finalised.

But the EU is pushing hard for better access to India's Automotive Market as it is indeed a 4 million USD vehicle market which churns out every year.

And it's not just EU brands that will benefit, even Tesla could gain from this deal if it ships cars directly from its Berlin factory and by doing that we could possibly see Tesla Models running down the roads of India soon.

Now, the pressure is coming from all sides and Indian officials and auto representatives met recently to discuss how to progress from here on.

Now the real question is, if your luxury car becomes more affordable, is it bad for local manufacturers or is it a time for them to up their game and become good?
