I have been an ANDROID user for the majority of my life but just last year I bought an iPhone to see what iOS feels like and there is one thing that I just had to check out which is the rumour of iOS users being charged more money for almost everything they pay for. There have been many claims like that. An Apple user sees a higher price for plane tickets than an Android user. And even claims like low batteries get charged higher because the urgency is higher. And there is a part of the internet that are not ok with it.

This guy even went ahead to experiment to prove it. But companies just denied it. But this time the government took it a little seriously. In December 2024, the Union Consumer Affairs Minister ordered a Central Consumer Protection Authority to look into price differences between Android and iOS users.

Though we know it's very common to see a price surge by ride-hailing apps due to demand and supply. Like flying to Istanbul was cheaper than going to Bangalore. And this happens quite often. It's really concerning when prices spike based on low battery or urgency. And it questions the ethical implications of device-based pricing.

In my own case I have seen this disparity twice already one was when I was getting my YouTube Premium Subscription and the other is when I was getting an app named Eatwise where it was showing me 299 for a Subscription fee on Android and 6999 on iOS which was simply absurd.
