Today I am excited to share a post on the Benin art culture in Nigeria and I decide to make a sketch on one of the iconic three Benin art bronze which is the Benin bronze plaque .Benin art stands as one of the most remarkable artistic traditions of West Africa, Nigeria . Known for its intricate bronze plaques, royal sculptures, and symbolic ivory carvings, this art form flourished in the historic Kingdom of Benin till this present day in Nigeria. Each piece tells a story of power, spirituality, and craftsmanship, often created to honor the Oba (king) and preserve royal history.

What fascinates me most is how Benin art blends artistic elegance with cultural depth—every motif, posture, and material carries meaning. It’s more than just art; it’s a visual archive of identity, tradition, and resistance.

More posts coming soon as I explore individual works and their stories!
