The Wellhaunt : Last of Charactobers

Here's the orgional prompt

I think I used a lot of it, but went off to do my own thing. Which is really how a prompt should go right? Once inspiration gets going it should be embraced not chastened.

Lore

The Wellhaunt is a spirit of vengeance. They were drowned unjustly and now seek out injustice to rectify in their own way. They listen to the woes of those who drown, be it human, animal or those creatures somewhere in-between. Those whose stories are of woe, betrayal and injustice result in the spirit bringing forth watery vengeance for those wronged. It may come with a storm, or heavy rainfall, the morning dew, or even a winters frost, but it will come. It has embraced the nature of water, determined, unending, and deadly. Do not foul the water with evil and unjust deeds.

The process.

We start with a doodle, it's not much, but its the start. I really wanted a hunched look. And the tilt made it feel kinda extra eerie. Maybe? I also pulled the figure closer cuase I liked it feeling like they were almost close enough to the viewer to be a threat.

Then I refined the sketch. I didn't end up using the shutters cause busted glass is is more interesting. From there I started working on details a bit more.

Then I started putting down some colour, working on the sky was super fun.

Then I realized the well really wasn't quite right. Both in size/angle and that the wooden stuff that used to support the bucket was just sorta stuck to the top instead of being constructed.

Then I decided that the well should be rocks. Not bricks. I also started trying to figure out why the building on the left looked so wrong. Perspective is hard ya'all. I think I mostly fixed it below.

Then I start to get things dark. I was really pleased with how the well turned out.

Adding some shading to the buildings made it start to feel more gathered, solid. Etc.

Starting to work on the chains, making it look better. I think.

Here it's almost done, but the figure kinda blends into the background.

So I did one final tweak and made the whole background darker.

And that's the last of my Charactober creations. Hope you enjoyed em.

My thanks to @london65 for these really cool prompts. You inspired a lot of artwork I'm really fond of with them.

Thank you for reading!

I love zooming in to see the small details like the chain on the neck down to the bucket - I love the orange to copper color you used. Not gold not brass I believe I am seeing a rich copper tone 💕 . Your environment is also well done like the swirling dark clouds above very eerie feeling 💕

Thank you!

The orange was actually supposed to be a rust color not copper. But from now on if anyone asks I'm gonna say copper cause I like that it'd be an unexpected metal.

Thank you for noticing the details, and how eerie it is. I really had fun with that part.
