My First Week with the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7: Worth It?

For the longest time, I had been eyeing a Samsung smartwatch to replace my old fitness band. Since I already use a Samsung smartphone, it made sense to stay within the ecosystem. The problem? The price. As much as I wanted one, I couldn’t justify spending that much on a smartwatch.
Then, earlier this month, I randomly checked online and saw the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 at a 50% discount. Half off?! That’s a deal I couldn’t ignore. And lucky for me, I had some extra cash from my Pi token earnings —so it felt like the perfect time to go for it.
First Impressions: Design & Comfort
The Galaxy Watch 7 (40mm Bluetooth) in white looks sleek and stylish. I love the clean, minimalistic design—it’s subtle yet elegant enough to wear daily, whether I’m out on a walk, running errands, or just lounging at home. The 40mm size feels perfect on my wrist, not too bulky, and the white band adds a fresh, modern touch.
It’s also lightweight and comfortable, which is a big plus since I wear it all day (and night, thanks to sleep tracking). I was worried that it might feel heavy or annoying after long hours, but so far, it’s been super easy to wear, even while sleeping.

My Favorite Features So Far
After seven days of using the watch, I can confidently say: I love it. It’s not just a fancier version of my old fitness band—it’s a game-changer for my daily routine. Here are my favorite features so far:
1. Seamless Phone Sync & Notifications
One of the things I love most is how well the watch syncs with my Samsung phone. Not only can I track everything on my wrist, but I can also check all the details on my phone for a more in-depth look. Whether it’s sleep data, heart rate trends, or workout stats, everything is right there in Samsung Health, perfectly organized.
Another huge plus is that phone notifications are pushed to my smartwatch. I don’t have to keep checking my phone for messages, emails, or alerts—I can just glance at my wrist and stay updated without getting distracted. Super convenient, especially when I’m busy!
I also love that my Galaxy Buds connect seamlessly with my watch and that I can download songs and podcasts on my watch and listen to them through my buds without fumbling through my phone.
2. Sleep Tracking & Energy Score
I’ve always been curious about my sleep patterns, and this watch gives me all the insights I need. It tracks my sleep stages, shows me how much deep sleep I’m getting, and even gives me an energy score in the morning. Not gonna lie—it’s a bit discouraging to see that my energy score isn’t great (because, you know, work and life don’t always allow for 8 hours of sleep). But at least now, I’m more aware of my habits and trying to adjust where I can, like every weekend, because that's the only time I can sleep more hours. 😌

3. Water Intake Tracking
Drinking enough water is something I struggle with, and this watch has been helping me stay on track. Every time I log a glass of water, I feel a tiny sense of accomplishment. Small wins, right? Yes, I can log it through the phone, but yep, having it on your wrist at all times makes it not easy to forget.
4. Blood Pressure Monitor
This feature alone makes the watch worth it for me. I’ve always wanted an easy way to keep track of my blood pressure, and now I can do it anytime, anywhere. No more waiting until a clinic visit or digging out an old BP monitor at home. Just a quick check on my wrist, and I have my numbers.
Funny story, my BP monitor at home is not digital, so when I had to calibrate my watch, I had to go to a nearby pharmacy and hope that the pharmacist would let me use their BP monitor. She was like, "We don't usually do it, but okay."
Yay! Puppy eyes do work. 🐶
Since this needs to be calibrated regularly, I am already planning to get this done at the hospital when I go to my next check up. LOL. Gotta put that puppy-eyes look again to the nurse at the triage. 😉
5. NFC & Samsung Pay
This was an unexpected but super convenient feature. I set up Samsung Pay on my watch, and now I can just tap to pay without pulling out my phone or wallet. It makes quick purchases so much easier—especially when I’m in a rush or don’t want to dig through my bag. Definitely a win for convenience!
Other Features
The Galaxy Watch 7 comes packed with other features that I don't use as much, but they definitely add to its value:
- ECG & Heart Rate Monitoring – Apart from BP monitoring, the watch also tracks heart rate and ECG readings, which can be useful for heart health monitoring.
- Google Assistant & Bixby – Voice control options for hands-free assistance. I haven’t used this much yet, but it’s nice to have.
- Find My Phone Feature – A lifesaver if I misplace my phone (which happens more often than I’d like to admit!).
- Snoring Data - The watch can track snoring, however, the phone needs to be connected to a charger to detect and record it. I am not comfortable to keep my phone charging overnight.

The Unexpected Benefit: Motivation!
I didn’t expect the watch to motivate me as much as it does. Seeing my step count, movement reminders, and daily stats makes me want to move more—even when I don’t feel like it. It’s like having a tiny fitness coach on my wrist, nudging me to take the stairs or go for a quick walk.
Even my sleep habits, which I always thought were out of my control, are slowly improving because I’m more conscious about bedtime routines. Sure, I still get less sleep than recommended (thanks, work!), but at least I try to do better.
Battery Issues?
While my experience has been largely positive, it's worth mentioning at least one concern I have with the Watch 7. My old tracker had a battery life of 10 days. My Watch 7 on the other hand, only lasts a full day with regular use, including notifications, health tracking, and sleep monitoring.
Final Thoughts: Was It Worth It?
Absolutely. At full price, I would have hesitated, but at 50% off, it was an easy yes. The health tracking features, the seamless integration with my Samsung phone, the convenience of Samsung Pay, and the daily motivation make it one of my best tech purchases in a while.
Seven days in, I am definitely seeing its value. Let’s see how it holds up in the long run—but for now, I’m definitely enjoying the upgrade.
One thing I’d love to see in the future? Samsung Health integration with the @actifit app on Hive. Actifit rewards users for staying active, so if my Galaxy Watch could seamlessly sync my daily activity with it, that would be a perfect match. Hopefully, soon!

This looks a good watch. I don't use them but Mrs T has had a fitbit for years but then is kaput now so is looking for something else!
