HELP CALL: Hive Games Developer ROBBED
DraconianOverlord, the developer behind Serfdom & Sorcery and part of the team behind PsyberX, two well-known Hive games, was a few hours ago the victim of a robbery, which saw his personal account, @psybergolem, being robbed of more than 16,000 Hives (roughly 5000 USD).
The transaction was not authorized by DraconianOverlord and involved sending the entire sum to a third-party account on Binance.
DraconianOverlord, as soon as he realized what had happened, proceeded to contact Binance, which temporarily blocked the account to which the funds were sent - although there is currently no way to know whether the funds are still there or, more likely, have already been sent elsewhere by the thief - as well as the competent authorities, to file complaints against the perpetrator of this crime.
The theft was carried out through one of the most widespread hacking techniques in the world, the one that is perhaps the most difficult to thwart: social engineering.
Based on the reconstruction of the facts, the thief is someone who has long posed as a friend, as well as a trustworthy person, to whom DraconianOverloard had entrusted the management of his account on another well-known Hive Game, which is Golem Overlord.
Thus exploiting the trust of DraconianOverlord, this person gained access to the active key of his account and, at the most opportune time, robbed him of all his funds.
The stolen money, indeed, is personal to DraconianOverlord and intended for his personal and essential expenses (including rent).
The thief has, on the other hand, never had access to the accounts linked to the games developed by DraconianOverlord, which are therefore secure and not compromised.
Beyond the condemnation of the actions of this criminal, whose prosecution has already been referred to the competent authorities, with this post I would like, besides expressing my sorrow for the incident, also contribute indirectly to help DraconianOverlord.
As a matter of fact, the community immediately moved to provide any possible help, both moral and material, and someone (@stickupboys and @wrestlingdesires, for example) has already ventured/is venturing to publish a post whose proceeds are completely destined to DraconianOverlord who, in order to receive this aid, created a new profile, @psyberhelp.
This latter account is therefore 100% beneficiary of this post.
Thank you to those who would like to contribute with an upvote which, whether small or large, will surely constitute a small but essential help for DraconianOverlord.

Una Chiamata d'AIUTO: Sviluppatore di Hive Games DERUBATO
DraconianOverlord, lo sviluppatore dietro Serfdom & Sorcery e parte del team di PsyberX, due noti Hive games, è stato poche ore fa vittima di un furto, che ha visto il suo account personale, @psybergolem, venire derubato di oltre 16.000 Hive (circa 5.000 dollari).
La transazione non è stata autorizzata da DraconianOverlord e ha comportato l'invio dell'intera somma ad un account di terzi su Binance.
DraconianOverlord, appena resosi conto dell'accaduto, ha provveduto a contattare Binance, che ha temporaneamente bloccato l'account a cui sono stati inviati i fondi - sebbene attualmente non ci sia modo di sapere se gli stessi si trovino ancora lì o, cosa più probabile, siano già stati inviati altrove dal ladro -, nonchè le autorità competenti, per sporgere denuncia verso l'autore di questo crimine.
Il furto è stato realizzato mediante una delle tecniche di hacking più diffuse al mondo, quella forse più difficile da contrastare: il social engineering.
Sulla base della ricostruzione dei fatti, il ladro è qualcuno che si è spacciato a lungo per un amico, nonchè persona degna di fiducia, al quale DraconianOverloard aveva affidato la gestione del suo account su un altro noto Hive Game, ossia Golem Overlord.
Sfruttando quindi la fiducia di DraconianOverlord, questa persona ha avuto accesso alla active key del suo account e, al momento opportuno, lo ha derubato di tutti i suoi fondi.
I soldi rubati, infatti, sono personali di DraconianOverlord e destinati a sue spese personali ed essenziali (compreso l'affitto di casa).
Il ladro non ha, invece, nè ha mai avuto accesso agli account collegati ai giochi sviluppati da DraconianOverlord, che pertanto risultano sicuri e non compromessi.
Al di là della condanna dell'operato di questo criminale, la cui persecuzione è già stata rimessa alle autorità competenti, con questo post vorrei, oltre ad esprimere il mio dispiacere per l'accaduto, anche contribuire in modo indiretto ad aiutare DraconianOverlord.
La community si è infatti subito mossa per fornire ogni aiuto possibile, sia morale che materiale, e qualcuno (@stickupboys e @wrestlingdesires, ad esempio) si è già cimentato/si sta cimentando nella pubblicazione di un post i cui proventi sono completamente destinati a DraconianOverlord che, al fine di ricevere questi aiuti, ha creato un nuovo profilo, @psyberhelp.
Quest'ultimo account è quindi il beneficiario al 100% di questo post.
Grazie a chi vorrà dare il suo contributo con un upvote che, piccolo o grande che sia, sicuramente costituirà un piccolo aiuto essenziale per DraconianOverlord.

Caspita che vicenda. E' la prima volta che leggo il termine social engineering. Inoltre non sapevo che ci fossero persone che potessero pianificare un furto in questa maniera, cioè costruendosi la fiducia della vittima piano piano impiegando mesi e poi compiere il furto in pochi secondi.
Pensa che mi pare di aver letto proprio poco tempo fa che diceva che il social engineering è la tecnica di hack più efficace e diffusa al mondo, nonostante sembri quella da cui proteggersi più facilmente... ma la verità è che a molti di noi viene naturale fidarsi degli altri, per cui finiamo per essere, involontariamente, proprio coloro che rendono possibile (e così semplice) il furto.

Eh sì, davvero, forse qui è anche un po' peggio perché se gli dai le chiavi d'accesso al tuo account dopo sei letteralmente nudo, non c'è nessun tipo di protezione e anche gli strumenti per perseguire questi criminali sono sicuramente ancora poco sviluppati.
Si, servirebbe un'autorizzazione finale tramite mail forse per i grandi importi 🤔
Servirebbe davvero qualcosa del genere, perché così tutto ciò che non è in stake rischia davvero di sparire irrimediabilmente in un attimo.

Purtroppo, però, sembra che sia una tecnica utilizzata da parecchi, e anche conosciuta, che che ci fa capire quanto i truffatori siano veramente delle persone infami ed infingarde, e il peggio, poi, è che se tu subisci un attacco di questo genere, dubito che ti riesca di fidarti, in futuro, in tutta tranquillità, anche di persone che, invece, al contrario, potrebbero rivelarsi persone realmente di fiducia.
Mi auguro, in tutta sincerità, che non debba mai ritrovarmi a vivere un episodio di questo genere, poiché ci rimarrei veramente male, anche se, in realtà, ho passato qualcosa di simile quando sono stato truffato, in una cosa, su consiglio di una persona che consideravo amica, anche se, a sua discolpa, c'è da dire che anche lui è rimasto fregato.

Sì, davvero, è una tecnica a dir poco bastarda, che ti arreca un danno non solo economico, ma anche morale, perchè vedere la propria fiducia tradita è qualcosa di davvero brutto e difficile da dimenticare... Purtroppo al peggio non c'è mai fine e quindi immagino non ci sia da meravigliarsi se certa gente, pur di guadagnare alle spalle degli altri, sia anche disposta a prendere in giro qualcuno a questo modo.
Che poi che razza di persone devi essere per comportarti magari per mesi e mesi come un amico, vedere un qualcuno che via via si fida sempre più di te, che dà valore alla vostra amicizia, per poi tradirlo così, facendogli capire che per te era tutto solo una truffa?
