My apples and pears (14pics)
Greetings, friends
It's the last week of summer, August will end on Sunday, and we have apples and pears on the table every day at home. When early varieties of apples and pears ripen, they need to be processed because they are not stored for a long time. We make jams, juices, bake pies and just eat them.
There are actually a lot of apples this year. I picked this basket of apples, about 15 kilograms, this morning. To be more precise, I collected them from the ground. I do this every morning. Why don't I pick them from the tree? We won't be able to eat or recycle them all at once.
I don't take these apples on the table, they need to be disposed of.
About 30 years ago, I had a Pioneer Sever apple tree, with small sweet apples growing on it. But there was a slight nuisance - these apples were loved by wasps. They could eat an entire apple in just one day. It's a good thing I don't see wasps in my garden right now.
That's how the apple cracked and the ants and flies started eating it. If I leave it on a tree, they will break it in half to the very core.
Apples are called "White filling". They ripen first in my garden. When I started growing them, 30 years ago, they could be eaten after August 20th, but they fully ripened in early September. This year we started eating them in the first days of August. The climate is changing.
There are 3 mature pear trees in my garden. We have already been eating fruits from one pear for 2 weeks, but on this tree the pears will be the last to ripen. I think they will hang for another 3 weeks.
These apples will hang on the tree for another couple of weeks to gain full flavor. These apples hold fast and don't fall to the ground.
I also have late varieties of apples that can be stored for a long time and they will be delicious in winter.
But it's not just pears and apple trees that grow in my garden. Tomatoes continue to ripen in the greenhouse and delight us.
Usually, by the beginning of autumn, you can hear from friends that they are already tired of cucumbers, but no one would refuse if they continued to grow all winter. The usual story is that in winter you want fresh fruits and vegetables.
This year, my wife planted a small bed of beardless strawberries. We haven't done this for more than 5 years, but this year we decided to grow this berry. She has been pleasing us for 2 months now. The taste of the berry itself is about 6 points out of 10, but on Sunday, we made some jam from these strawberries with the addition of lingonberries. And it turned out very tasty.

I really like apples too, but they can’t grow in our hot climate. Your tree looks so nice with so many fruits. If it were here in the Philippines people would probably rush to get them. Hehe...
What a fruitful season. I love how you enjoy every harvest making jams, juices sounds truly wonderful and refreshing.
How nice to have an orchard with fruit trees to make the most of them to prepare juices, jams and cakes. Nothing better than natural. Greetings.
