THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF CARLITOS (En - En)

Good morning to all the Hive reading community. Today I want to show you a beautiful encyclopedia that I keep in my library and that I know you will love. I recently told you that I gave away my entire collection of children's books to some of my friends' children who were in the age of initiation to reading, and others, who were already in that process but their moms had the battle of opposing reading over digital devices. Well, I can tell you that we are winning the battle, since they told me that the children come home from school and go straight to enjoy their snack and their beautiful texts. Carlitos' Encyclopedia

I bought this encyclopedia more than 20 years ago, of course, because I am a fan of Snoopy and I got caught by the illustration. Its content is of general culture, and something more. It was published in 1992 by Editorial Junior - Grojalbo Mondadori, in Barcelona, Spain.

I kept this collection because it is the one I like the most, and I kept it to send it to my grandchildren because I felt sad that they would not enjoy these books because they are far away, but somehow I will send them to them. Before doing so, I wanted to show them how much beauty dwells in these sheets of paper, that not even all the digital advancement could overshadow their tangible beauty before our eyes. Its pages are illustrated with the motifs of the famous comic Snnopy and his friends, along with their owner, little Charlie Brown, and the work itself is named after the child.

What is it about?

The encyclopedia of Carlitos always reminded me of that famous work “The why of things”, since its context is aimed at answering every possible question that the human mind asks about everything that surrounds us, and even goes beyond the why, investigating and discovering everything that leads to it.

The most attractive way to reach children through reading is illustration, and even more so when it comes to cartoons and iconic figures from the world of comics. As a teacher, I always implemented colorful illustrations as a relevant mechanism in reading didactics, and children liked to answer questions rather than investigate by themselves.

How is the work divided?

The encyclopedia is divided into 5 volumes, and talks about the following topics:

1.- Large and small creatures
2.- Earth and space
Peoples and people of the world
4.- By land, sea and air
How things work

In each volume a wide range of interesting questions are developed as for example, in chapter 2 of volume 3, the theme is; “Walking around Australia”, and there are questions such as:

Where is Australia located?
What is Australia like?
What language do Australians speak?

In chapter 2 of volume 4, the topic is; “The amazing wheel”, there are questions such as:

Who invented the wheel?
What did the first wheel look like?
What was the first wheeled vehicle?

Each question has its own well-structured answer, and is followed by a large number of questions based on the initial one.

To which readers is the book addressed?

To everyone, because regardless of the fact that the texts are extensively illustrated to attract the youngest readers, its content has very interesting and even unknown material for adults. It is worth asking for it and enjoying it, since it will not only distract us from its journey, but will also broaden our general culture.

Buenos días a toda la comunidad lectora de Hive. Hoy les quiero mostrar una hermosa enciclopedia que guardo en mi biblioteca y que sé que les va a encantar. Recientemente les comenté, que toda mi colección de lecturas infantiles la regalé entre los niños de algunas amigas que se encontraban en la edad de iniciación a la lectura, y otros, que ya estaban en ese proceso pero sus mamitas tenían la batalla de contraponer la lectura por encima de los dispositivos digitales. Pues les comento que vamos ganando la batalla, ya que me manifestaron que los niños llegan de la escuela y se van directo a disfrutar de su merienda y sus hermosos textos. Enciclopedia de Carlitos

Esta enciclopedia la compré hace más de 20 años, por supuesto, porque soy fan de Snoopy y me atrapó la ilustración. Su contenido es de cultura general, y algo más. Fue editada en el año 1992, en la Editorial Junior – Grijalbo Mondadori, en Barcelona, España.

Me quedé con esta colección porque es la que me gusta más, y la guardé para enviársela a mis nietos porque sentía tristeza de que ellos no disfrutaran estos libros por estar lejos, pero de alguna manera se los haré llegar. Antes de hacerlo, quise mostrarles cuánta hermosura habita en estas hojas de papel, que ni todo el avance digital podría opacar su belleza tangible ante nuestros ojos. Sus páginas están ilustradas con los motivos del famoso cómic Snnopy y sus amigos, junto a su dueño, el pequeño Charlie Brown, y la obra en sí, lleva el nombre del niño.

¿De qué trata?

La enciclopedia de Carlitos siempre me hizo recordar aquella obra tan nombrada “El porqué de las cosas”, ya que su contexto va dirigido a responder cada posible interrogante que se hace la mente humana sobre todo lo que nos rodea, e incluso, va más allá del porqué, indagando y descubriendo todo lo que lo conlleva a él.

La manera más atractiva de llegar a los niños a través de la lectura, es la ilustración, y más aún si se trata de dibujos animados y figuras icónicas del mundo de los cómics. Como docente, siempre implementé las ilustraciones de colores intensos como mecanismo relevante en la didáctica lectora, y a los niños les gustaba más responder interrogantes que investigar por sí mismos.

¿Cómo está dividida la obra?

La enciclopedia está dividida en 5 tomos, y habla de los siguientes temas:

1.- Criaturas grandes y pequeñas
2.- La tierra y el espacio
3.- Pueblos y gente del mundo
4.- Por tierra, mar y aire
5.- Cómo funcionan las cosas

En cada tomo se desarrolla una amplia gama de preguntas interesantes como por ejemplo, en el capítulo 2 del tomo 3, el tema es; “Paseando por Australia”, y hay preguntas como:

¿Dónde está situada Australia?
¿Cómo es Australia?
¿Qué idioma hablan los australianos?

En el capítulo 2 del tomo 4, el tema es; “La sorprendente rueda”, hay preguntas como:

¿Quién inventó la rueda?
¿Cómo era la primera rueda?
¿Cuál fue el primer vehículo con ruedas?

Cada pregunta tiene su respuesta bien estructurada, y le sigue otra gran cantidad de planteamientos basados en el inicial.

¿A qué lectores va dirigida la obra?

A todos, ya que independientemente de que son textos ampliamente ilustrados para atraer a los lectores más pequeños, su contenido tiene material muy interesante y hasta desconocido para los adultos. Vale la pena solicitarlo y disfrutarlo, ya que no sólo nos va a distraer su recorrido, sino que va a ampliar nuestra cultura general.
