My Little Garden Update Mid-May

avatar
I love to organize anything! I remember I wanted to take an architecture major back then but I ended up graduating with a bachelor's degree in Indonesian literature (in accordance with my works at that time about the books I published).

IMG_5417.jpeg

So, you could say I also like to organize my garden, how to make the end result neat even though I only choose a small area to organize.

Isn't that the challenge of organizing, organizing something that is not too big, but then can be arranged and looks neat and aesthetic?

IMG_5413.jpeg

This is the condition of my mini garden that I photographed in the morning, it looks like it is starting to be full of lots of planting media. I utilize a little green area in front of the house while I also utilize the carport. Because we don't have a private vehicle. So it's good to have a little space that I can organize!

I started with green mustard greens. This is indeed the first time I have planted bitter mustard greens. So, I don't really know their development from week to week.

IMG_5409.jpeg

Without realizing it, the bitter mustard greens are 20 days old after being transplanted. I don't know if this is normal or not. But I'm a little worried that their growth will not be optimal. But I still have about 15 to 20 days left, for them to be harvested. Hopefully there is still time for them to maximize the weight of the stems and leaves of the bitter mustard greens.

IMG_5398.jpeg
I think their growth is not optimal because of the high rainfall this week. When I finished fertilizing early last week, it rained so that the area I planted with bitter mustard greens was flooded.

Here we can see the area I planted is flooded with water. But fortunately the drainage level of this area is quite good. So that in a few hours the water has receded. The next day my plants looked fresh again.

IMG_5399.jpeg

The rain that occurred also required me to provide extra care for the bitter mustard greens. Namely by watering the leaves that were exposed to the soil with plain water. So that the effects of acidic rainwater can be neutralized and no pests stick to them.

IMG_5412.jpeg

Next I will show you the development of the plants that I planted in used gallons. Spinach plants and also kangkung (water spinach) plants are growing well.

IMG_5400.jpeg

I have also fertilized these plants in the first week so that they can grow optimally. In addition, I also did not forget to loosen the area of the planting medium around. This also aims to make their roots able to absorb the nutrients from the fertilizer that I gave them optimally.

IMG_5411.jpeg
Indeed, using used gallons for planting vegetables will not be optimal compared to other planting media because of the small space. But better than nothing, right? Let's see together how the results are. I am also curious about the results, because this is the first time I have planted spinach and also kangkung (water spinach) in used gallons like this.

Continuing to my baby green bean plants. I was very excited to see their developments and at the same time I was afraid that the same thing would happen in my old garden. In my old garden, I had failed to green bean plants the usual type of beans that creep. So this time I tried to plant a different type of green beans, this type of green beans are the baby green beans type and not creep.

IMG_5404.jpeg
The baby green bean plants were starting to look bushy and I had to start adding plant supports. These plants were already 3 weeks old after being transplanted. New shoots continued to appear and their leaves were increasing. I was curious about where their flowers would come from.

IMG_5401.jpeg

IMG_5402.jpeg
Well, for the plant supports I used the bamboo type, I had to buy them because in my area I couldn't get bamboo for free in the forest. The length of the bamboo I used was around 120 cm.

IMG_5405.jpeg
IMG_5403.jpeg

After adding the plant supports made of bamboo, I also tied the plants (but not too tightly) using white plastic rope. Overall, the baby bean plants look beautiful. Especially when using white polybags like that.

IMG_5406.jpeg
They look beautiful like ornamental plants. In fact, they are vegetable plants.

By the way, before I close my garden update blog in mid-May, I will also show you how to transplant my shallot plants.

IMG_5369.jpeg

The shallot seeds that I planted earlier are already 30 days old. They look strong enough to be transplanted.

IMG_5416.jpeg

Then in the afternoon I transplanted them into the polybag media that had been I've prepared it.
IMG_5415.jpeg

I use polybags with the same size as the polybags I use for the baby bean plants.

IMG_5408.jpeg

I'm quite happy that at least there are some arrangements that I made in my mini garden. It feels really satisfying! Well, until next on my garden!

Good idea! Maybe select some flowers which are beautiful but at the same time attract bees and other useful pollinators?

Your organization of the small space and its transformation into a productive and coordinated garden in this way is truly inspiring.

This garden is not little at all, chief! Can't you use some kind of tarpaulin to protect them when it rains? You can cover them. In Turkey we don't usually need that because we don't get heavy rains all the time.

If I use the cover, maybe the sun is also covered ehehe
But too much cost

Hello,

I too look forward to seeing the results and of course we will see them on your blog later. I love to see your progress. It doesn't matter that the conditions of your garden are different now, what has always been constant in it is the organisation and love with which you cultivate it.

It is beautiful! Enjoy it as much as we do watching you grow things.

😄
