Me & The ADHD: Living Like There Is No Tomorrow!
Source
One of the symptoms of ADHD is putting yourself into danger, demanding this adrenaline rush. I always was confused about how fast I drive even though I'm mature in many other aspects, I mean I'm not generally reckless or careless, or maybe I am.
I had two motorcycles before, and they were both sold as scrap, the good news is I'm still alive, and this is a miracle given what I used to do once I start driving and seek adrenaline.
It always felt I live like there's no tomorrow, spending everything I have as if there's no tomorrow, delaying most tasks as if I won't have to do get them done later, and many other things that reflected this sad reality.
I'm also often unable to care enough about big things happening in my life that require my attention, I could just distract myself and ignore the big elephant in the room, almost always, which puts me in worse situations.
I can keep mentioning other things that make the same point, and I was surprised when I got to know about this from a documentary I watched, and again if you read the previous part, I felt like I'm not unique or special, this isn't me, this is the ADHD in me.
As I try to understand more about ADHD, I'm starting to be more self-aware in a rational way, without being paranoid. So I can always remind myself and resist the subconscious mind from taking control.
It's interesting how you mention adrenaline seeking behavior as a symptom of ADHD - I've heard it referred to as 'thrill-seeking' but never thought about it that way. Thanks for sharing your personal experience with this!
Well, till very recently I myself didn't know it had to do anything with ADHD, I thought it had to do with me being a risk-taking person maybe.
One thing that helped me understand more about ADHD is this documentary alongside with many other articles, videos, talks, and documentaries. But, if you're interested in generally knowing more about ADHD I think this will be both very informative and entertaining for you, it sums up the whole thing briefly and precisely in my point of view.
