Avoid These Five to Thrive: The Desire To Impress Other People
This is the first part of a series where I discuss five things you must avoid at all cost for a happy and successful life.
I always say; a person who seeks impressing other people has failed to impress himself. Real happy and successful people do not make their whole lives about impressing other people, they're content, not needy or desperate for other people liking them.
99% of people's actions can be traced to this desire of impressing others, it's also the main reason behind most of our purchases. It's so clear that most people don't want to buy a Ferrari for instance just because they like cars, but rather to flex, to impress other people, and to point at themselves and say: "I've made it, I'm successful"
Buying luxurious products to most people is merely a flex that symbolizes success, but what are the consequences of this vicious desire? Catastrophic consequences, like going broke trying to prove you're rich. Buying things you can't afford, and most importantly; living a lie to impress other people, so what could they feel inside? Awful, most certainly.
Happy people rarely have the need to prove it, in fact it's the exact opposite, they want to hide from other people's eyes, they're keen on preserving their happiness and joy. Real successful relationships for instance are the least exposed to social media.
You never see a video of Warren Buffet counting his money, he simply doesn't need the validation from other people to prove he's wealthy. People who die to prove it are people who lack it the most.
Now, we all have this desire to a variable extent, but this desire leads nowhere good, start by asking yourself: why? Why do I want to impress other people? Why am I this desperate for their validation?
When you start with this question, I believe you get to solve the root cause of this issue, and you live a happier and better life as a result.
