Hoy aprovechando que estoy en la ciudad les haré un recorrido para que conozcan São Domingos. Esta ciudad queda en el sur de Brasil, en el estado de Santa Catarina. Su población no llega a 9000 habitantes, es bien pequeña. Su tamaño no le impide ser una ciudad muy cómoda.
Today, taking advantage of the fact that I am in the city, I will take you on a tour to get to know São Domingos. This city is located in the south of Brazil, in the state of Santa Catarina. Its population does not reach 9000 inhabitants, it is very small. Its size does not prevent it from being a very comfortable city.
Ella también es llamada la capital catarinense de las araucarias. Las araucarias son un árbol que tiene una forma peculiar en su copa. A mi se me parece a un paraguas. Ella tiene un fruto llamado piñón que es muy rico y me recuerda a una castaña. Su temporada es sólo en invierno, por cierto, es tradición comer este fruto en esta época. Aquí hay un parque que se llama "Parque das araucárias" y es muy lindo.
It is also called the capital of the araucarias of Santa Catarina. The araucarias are a tree that has a peculiar shape in its crown. To me it looks like an umbrella. It has a fruit called pine nut that is very tasty and reminds me of a chestnut. Its season is only in winter, by the way, it is tradition to eat this fruit at this time. Here there is a park called "Parque das araucárias" and it is very nice.
La ciudad tiene una plaza central donde hay un parque, una cancha y un centro donde se realizan eventos. En navidad ella es la protagonista de esas fechas, la decoran con luces y queda espectacular. Además hacen actividades la mayoría de los días de diciembre, como conciertos, presentaciones de las escuelas y siempre tienen un trencito para pasear.
The city has a central square where there is a park, a court and a center where events are held. At Christmas she is the protagonist of these dates, they decorate it with lights and it looks spectacular. There are also activities most days of December, such as concerts, school presentations and they always have a little train to go for a ride.
El centro es pequeño, pero tiene bastantes tiendas para ser una ciudad tan pequeña. Aunque como son comercios pequeños los precios suelen ser más altos que en ciudades mayores. Hay productos específicos que hay que buscarlos en ciudades más grandes, como repuestos.

La principal actividad económica es la agricultura, por lo que la mayor parte del municipio está comprendido por siembras. El sistema de salud público realmente funciona y si estás enfermo puedes ir a la clínica o a uno de los dos puestos de salud que existen y tener tu atendimiento médico. Además de médicos generales, cuentan con odontólogos, ginecólogos y ortopedistas. Cabe destacar que cuando algún paciente necesita de otro profesional, éste es llevado con el transporte de la clínica hasta el profesional y los honorarios médicos son pagados por el municipio. Esta es una de las cosas que más me impresionan de esta ciudad.
The public health system really works and if you are sick you can go to the clinic or to one of the two health posts that exist and have your medical attention. In addition to general practitioners, they have dentists, gynecologists and orthopedists. It should be noted that when a patient needs another professional, he/she is taken with transportation from the clinic to the professional and the medical fees are paid by the municipality. This is one of the things that impresses me most about this city.
También son ofrecidas por el municipio diversas actividades deportivas y culturales totalmente gratis. Hay escuelas de yudo, futbol, voleiball y tenis de mesa. Así como también dan clases de danzas urbanas, ballet y bailoterapia. Este tipo de actividades me parece excelente porque apoya a los niños y adolescentes a descubrir lo que les gusta y a mantenerlos alejados de las calles.
Aunque no sólo ayuda a los niños, porque la bailoterapia ha ayudado a muchas mujeres a mantener su salud física y mental. Anteriormente participaba en las clases de baile, pero tuve que parar por no tener con quien dejar a mi hija. Espero pronto poder volver. Con esto termino mi post y los veo en próximo.
The municipality also offers various sports and cultural activities free of charge. There are judo, soccer, volleyball and table tennis schools. There are also urban dance, ballet and dance therapy classes. I think this type of activity is excellent because it helps children and teenagers to discover what they like and to keep them off the streets.
It doesn't only help children, though, because dance therapy has helped many women maintain their physical and mental health.
