My Husband’s Chef- Prompt #109

Hi everyone, welcome to my blog!
Something i never learnt but i could do conveniently would be cooking.

I don’t mean to brag but if you wake me up and ask me to cook you something, you won’t be disappointed. I won’t say I’ve never made a bad meal, i have, occasionally. I don’t know if it’s just me but I believe your mood affects the outcome of your meals. When I’m in a bad mood or feeling unwell, i try to stay away from the kitchen.

My mom is a good cook, she used to do a lot of catering for events, she didn’t really have so much time to spend with us in the aspect of teaching us how to cook, i think she didn’t think it was necessary at the time since we had assistants around the house.
Even the days when she was cooking i was too busy playing with my brothers. My love for cooking definitely awakened because of how much i love good food. The first meal i made was jollof rice and beans, it was my favorite meal. I went into the kitchen one afternoon and I didn’t want to eat what was made, after looking around the kitchen, I thought i could try something, hopefully i don’t burn down the house since i was home alone.

Few minutes later i was done cooking, yes, the food turned out well and it was edible, well some of it was. I didn’t know i was supposed to boil the beans before adding the rice, so i just cooked them together with curry lol. You could tell the food had potential, my dad was the first person to get back home so he was my tester, he encouraged me by eating a little of it. I didn’t stop there, whenever i was home alone i cooked anything and everything i could get my hands on. The first time i made soup, it was so nice even my mom couldn’t believe it.

I guess I’ve always been good at putting two and two together, I started coming up with new recipes and new ways of styling dishes, it’s safe to say she learnt some from me. Later on, social media exposed us to different cultures and dishes around the world, and i indulged youtube a lot to improve my cooking skills. One would think i grew up to become a professional chef haha, I’m not. Cooking is just one the things i love to do but i knew I didn’t want to do it professionally, I’ll be my husband’s chef and that’ll just have to do.

Something else i do well without learning was organising and decorations. Now this one stuck with me. I would decorate the whole house everyday before my mom got back and she would scold me a lot. It didn’t stop me though, at a young age i was doing little birthday and house decorations, today i decorate and plan events and parties.
I could keep going but I think I’ve said a little too much.

Thanks for stopping by ✨✨

I think you did a great job because the first meal I made ended as a disaster. The eba felt like stone in the throat while my beans didn't get soft even after hours of cooking because I added all my ingredients after washing the beans into the pot.

Pictures of your food would have been great for the post, thanks for participating in the Hivenaija weekly prompt.
