Money Reveals
We can be so caught up in our emotions and not deeply pay attention to the people around us.
I believe money is a revealer but there’s also Time. Time is a revealer. When we get to spend a good amount of time with people we love and care about, we begin to notice things about them, some good and some bad.
What money does is, it shortens the time and shows you that attitude in a person.
Money mostly reveals you even to yourself.
Some might not agree with this but sometimes i think some people might be poor for a reason. I’ve heard of different situations where a kind hearted person decides to help someone and that person after reaching a level of success becomes unsatisfied and turns around to bite the hand that fed them. So maybe in that poverty they were supposed to learn hard work, patience, discipline and humility. And bringing them out of that situation too early becomes of a disadvantage to them.
There’s a story my dad used to tell us when we were growing up, about the scorpion and the Toad.
A scorpion was supposed to cross a lake on his journey but he couldn’t swim, so he saw a told and asked for his help crossing the lake and the told said “ I can’t help you, if i do, you’ll sting me. The scorpion argued back and pleaded “I can’t sting you even if i wanted to, if i do that then we’ll both drown and I don’t want to die”. The Toad agree because it made sense. The scorpion got on his back, and when there were halfway through, the scorpion suddenly stung the toad. The toad asked why and he replied “I’m sorry, it’s in my nature to sting. I couldn’t help it.” They both drowned.
A lot of people have this attitude in their nature and money mostly just reveals it. I’ve met people that are greedy and selfish when they have but the moment you have and they don’t they become humble and calm again.
Here’s my personal experience;
I lived with someone for a while and i was the major provider because i inderstood she didn’t have at the time, i would always think about her before eating anything. I did all this with the mindset that if i was in her shoes she’ll do same for me but as God and situations will have it, she got a job and was earning higher than myself (we were still students), i noticed some changes in her.
She stopped talking to me and any attempt to start a conversation was ignored, she started getting her personal items (we used to share mine before) and she would hide them in her bag. When there’s no food, she’ll lock up and eat whatever she buys alone. We tried talking to her about it but it just ended up as an argument until she decided she wanted to leave.
From this experience and a few others, i can confidently say money doesn’t change people, i just got to see a side of her i had never seen or paid attention to. Greedy people are greedy and Kind people are kind, money has no hand in it. I’ve also met people who can even give you their last. Greedy people never feel like they have enough. Another problem could be that some persons have no self control and are controlled by money. If everyone can look at their selves and identify their issues, and we won’t be blaming money.
In my country, a lot of people’s prayer point is money, if you give them money they don’t see the reason to pray or be friends or associate with you. It’s a sad reality but this is what i believe.
