Happy new week Lovers of the needle work community. It's such a great new week.

I made a simple dress as a gift for my friend's niece.

I have heard a lot of good things about her and I asked my friend to bring her along, when next she's coming to visit.

My friend didn't know I had a surprise in store for her niece. I had seen her pictures countless times when she post on WhatsApp, so I had an idea of her body size and just wanted to make something very simple.

I had a leftover fabric of about two and half yardage at home and decided to use it as the gift.

I decided to make a knee length Boubou for her, that's quite versatile.

I'm quite a fan of Boubous because they are less stressful to make and rock.

I placed the fabric on the floor and made a kimono sleeve, using the standard neck measurement. At the front I made an asymmetric neckline and used another matching African print fabric to turn.

It's one of the fastest outfit I've made in such a long while, since I didn't need to use pattern to draft or didn't have to do too much on it.

The intention of this dress was just to put a smile on the face of my niece, especially now she's meeting her aunt's friend for the first time.

Unfortunately, it rained so much the day we made plans to see, so they couldn't make it.

The next day, I took some shots of the outfit on my mannequin and sent it through logistics.

Report got to me that, she loved the outfit so much and can't wait to see me.

I'll be making another plan to see her probably next weekend, so that we can bond. I love her already without seeing her yet.

I guess the reason she loved her outfit was because, Royal Blue is her favorite color. And, I also heard she doesn't like too much details on her clothes. Let's just call her miss simplicity.

That was how I spent my weekend and I feel so fulfilled to know I put a smile on someone's face over the weekend.

Images used belong to me. Outfit cut and sewn by me.
