It's a beautiful new week. I'm hoping everyone is ready to start off their new week in an energetic way.

Last week was so overwhelming even though I enjoyed the project later.

One thing I've found is that knowing the right fabrics and what to pair it with is one way of solving problems when it comes to fashion designing.

It was a struggle to find a perfect match for this African print fabric. I wanted to pair it with Royal Blue, which was why I took this shot after checking out all the blue plain fabrics I could find.

I noticed the blue was already the domineering color of the fabric , so it needed a calmer color to complement it. .

My cousin told me she was going to get a white crepe as that is what she would love for the upper bodice.

I started off by drafting the upper bodice of the outfit. I did the style line.

I cut out the pattern carefully.

I also cut out the skin tone net first placing the pattern paper on it. Since it's the most delicate part of the outfit.

I thought a white crepe would have been better, so I placed my pattern on it and transfered the pattern.

After transferring, I began to sew it.

It came out nicely but then I didn't like the outcome, maybe because the fabric wasn't giving what I wanted it to give.

My clients have known me for giving out quality over quantity, so I didn't want to change what I've been known for.

Although, the dress belongs to my cousin, giving quality wouldnt be compromised.I called her and informed her about the process and she was glad I even did.

The fabric the vendor sold to her was a very inferior fabric and if used, it wouldn't last longer.

Her style is a very expensive one which would make her feel bad, if she doesn't wear it for a long period of time.

It took me about another hour to transfer the pattern onto a new fabric which was in black and a better quality.

After which, I joined them together and it looked even better even before doing the lower bodice.

IMG_20250520_222952_281.jpg

As for the lower bodice, the style was meant to be high and low flare.
But I did a thing with it. Rather than fixing it in a regular. way, I did something beautiful with it and fixed it in a slant form.

When she came for fittings, she hugged me a million times. She sent me amazing shots and I love love them.

Here's the front view.

And here's the back view.

I'm glad that changing the color was such a perfect decision as it complementee the lower bodice more than I envisaged.

It will be a totally wasted effort to go through such intensive work with a lesser quality fabric and it good that you realized that and changed the fabric...okay

Your dress is beautiful, elegant and statement. Especially the slightly flared skirt which successfully creates an elegant silhouette.

Wow I have seen alot of hard work here
You did amazingly.
Sorry about the time you went through just to get a superior fabric
As a tailor I understand the pains and stress involved.
But a good quality dress is worth all the stress.
Your cousin will be proud of you

That's incredible. I'm so in awe of dressmaking. It's like a cross between engineering and art and you need to be brilliant at both.
Best wishes to you and your loved ones.

The navy blue blends perfectly, that was indeed a good choice of colour and the final result is stunning, great job.
