Veganism is a Trap
In the contemporary era, there is a prevailing ideology that human beings are all wise to decide what is good for them. In this perspective, religious teachings from holy scriptures are regarded as unnecessary as they do not align with the people’s self created values. Consequently, individuals and societies have all the authority to determine what should be prohibited or permitted based on their values and understanding.
As a result of shift in ethical framework, human beings have become prone to adopt several kind of life styles that are neither healthy nor natural. Nevertheless, based on their limited knowledge and understanding people believe that they are contributing positively to ecological preservation and personal health.
One such example is veganism which has gained popularity as a life style choice. Nevertheless, it raises questions about what truly constitutes a natural way of living.
For me, a natural way of living is the one in which we are not dependent on industries to provide us with supplements and fortification in our foods to keep us equipped with the essential nutrients. Nevertheless, the vegans diet is unable to provide us with the elements our body and mind require to maintain their well-being.
For instance, naturally, the major source of vitamin B12 is meat. Most of the vegan food lacks this essential nutrient entirely. Some vegan products do contain vitamin B12 but merely in traces. Even with fortification the amount of this essential vitamin the vegan diet provides is not sufficient to meet the needs of human body
Vitamin B12 is of immense importance for the proper functioning of our mind and body. The deficiency of this vitamin has found to be associated with anaemia, weakness of bones, cognitive impairment, neuronal disorders, psychiatric disorders, slow metabolism, cardiac disorders and generalized weakness. Thus, by omitting animal products from our diet we make ourselves vulnerable to all kind of weaknesses and disorders. I wonder how then vegan diet be regarded as a healthier way of living.
The deficiency of vitamin B12 does not merely impact the individual but if you are a vegan woman, your generation is at the risk of suffering. A study found a correlation between neurological disorders and developmental regression in infants with vegetarian diet of the mother.
So what a vegan should do to save them from the potential harms of Vitamin B12 deficiency. Of course, they are advised to take the supplements helping the pharmaceutical companies to grow. The argument goes back to my initial thesis. Is the dependence on supplements and fortification in line with the natural way of living.
We all know that protein is an important macronutrient of our diet. There are 20 types of amino acids that form protein. 11 types of proteins are constructed by our body while 9 amino acids can only be obtained via our diet. Animal products like milk, egg and meat contain all the nine essential amino acids; while there is hardly any plant based product that contain all the essential amino acid. Though it is possible to get all the essential amino acids via combination of different vegan products, yet it is still arduous to achieve the balance of the essential amino acids by quitting the animal products altogether
No plant-based milk is equivalent to dairy milk in terms of nutritional value. By quitting dairy products, vegans put themselves in danger of deficiency of several other essential nutrients like calcium, vitamin D (source, phosphorus, zinc, vitamin A, vitamin B complex, iodine, and selenium.(source & (source). It is even a question to regard the so called mixture of a plant and water as milk.
Similarly, the vegan yogurt has been found to be deficient in several essential elements such as probiotics, calcium, sodium, vitamin D and vitamin B12 as compared to the dairy yogurt. Moreover, the sugar level found in the plant-based product was also high.
There are several other essential nutrients that are impossible to obtain via plants only. To cater the requirement of the body a vegan either needs to take supplement or a fortified food. Thus vegans depend on an industry (or perhaps more industries) to maintain their lifestyle. If they ever have to live in a natural setting without industries, there is no way for them to maintain their well being.
Besides claiming to be healthier, another motivating factor behind the adoption of veganism is the desire to reduce animal sufferings and preserve ecology . While in their own imagination the vegans might be protecting animals and natural environment, the facts do not seem to support the idea.
Almond milk is one of the most consumed product among the vegan community. Almond flowers do not pollinate on their own but require the bees as worker for pollination.
To cater the market needs of almond milk colonies of bees have to migrate from their farms to almond fields. In this process a great percentage of honey bees die. It is not they just die but suffer from pesticides, mites, and colony collapse disorder. In other words their death is full of great sufferings.
The eradication of honey bees from the earth is equivalent to put a full stop on life altogether. As Albert Einstein said, “If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe, man would have only four years to live”
In order to meet the market requirement, increased cultivation of several other plants to such as soybean, avocado, palm and quinoa is becoming a contributing factor towards deforestation, degradation of soil and habitat loss of several other plants and animals.
Moreover, the use pesticides is mercilessly killing several insects and the animals feeding on those insects and plants.
In other words, the increase in veganism has caused more harm than good to animals, environment and personal health.
The major beneficiaries of the increased veganism are the industrialists and pharmaceutical companies who earn millions of dollars by making fortified food and supplements for essential nutrients. Other beneficiaries may be the doctors who charge their clients with heavy fees whenever they will go to them for the issues caused by dietary deficiencies.
In conclusion, going vegan is neither a healthy way of living nor any service to animals or environment. It is merely a trap that is set for us to fill the pockets of some industrialists.

This whole thesis has extremely cherry-picked data points. Just off the top of my head, pharmaceutical companies don't make B12 supplements.
Secondly, being concerned about honey bees but not cows, sheep, pigs and chickens is very strange. I don't want bees to die, but there are more honey bees on Earth now than ever before, they are not endangered.
Deforestation is not good... but far more deforestation happens to farm soy to feed cows than for anything else.
Claiming that vegans are dependent on industry while ignoring all the industry around meat and every other source of our food is also super strange.
If you want to eat meat, then eat meat, no one is stopping you. There are health risks to eating meat, there are health risks to being vegan, but one is definitely better for the planet than the other.
First of all, thanks for taking your time to read and respond in detail @aussieninja. I appreciate.
I have come across supplements of vitamin B12 in the form of tablets and injections that are prepared by pharmaceutical companies, so I am not sure what you actually mean by pharmaceutical companies not making the B12 supplements.
I tried to put this matter in an entirely different way, I think. I didn’t mean to be concerned more about one or the other. Lemme explain.... The ethical point raised against using animal products is concerning animals' welfare, right? The point is that by turning towards veganism, we might be protecting the welfare of one kind of animals but the other kind is hurt in order to cater the need of vegan products, isn't it? So the very ethical concern of animal welfare is still in question.
Thanks for the information. I was unaware of the fact. Nevertheless, as far as I know there are certain species of honey bees that are endanger. One of the reasons is the removal of their natural habitat.
May be you are right in making this claim.
Let's rethink about the lifestyle changes. Let’s say 50% of the world's population leaves the cruelty of taking animal's products and opt to be vegan. Of course, more food related plants will be grown and more deforestation will be done. Moreover, the biodiversity will be reduced as there will be more cultivation of the plant in demand. Is the situation not likely to put several species of flora in danger?
I am not denying that there are indutries around other sources of food. I claimed that going vegan is unnatural because this lifestyle is unable to maintain wellbeing if it is adoped without technological intervention of food science.
If you were to live in a forest, you may easily get all the essential nutrients from your surrounding without any intervention of food sciences. I am not sure how a vegan will obtain vitamin B12, and sufficent quantity of phosphorus, calcium, protein, Heme-iron, fatty acids and others.
Oh yeah, risks and allergies are associated with everything. In fact, needs of every individual are difficult. Nevertheless, as a norm balance is the best approach in all the walks of life. Opting for any extreme is likely to bring negative consequences.
Hmmmm. The other day, I was thinking, if synthetic leather is biodegradable or not. If it is not, the concerns about the well being of animals, humans and the ecosystem will only increase over time.
At the end, thanks to you again for investing your time on my post. I always love such opportunities to learn from other people's pointvof view
Blessed day
Pharmaceutical companies don't make supplements. Pharmaceutical companies make their money off making drugs, and, honestly, through abusing patent law. In the US, drugs cannot be sold unless approved by the FDA. Supplements can be made by any company, FDA-approval is not required and so supplements can be made by anyone in their kitchen and sold. Supplements can be extracts, or herbs, or minerals or really anything.
Honey bees are a species of bee... and they are not endangered.
Many other native bee species are endangered from removal of habitat, and a huge reason for this is housing and farming to support the beef industry. If you're concerned about bee species then eating less meat would be much better for them.
I think you can make the same argument about an unnatural lifestyle for eating meat. Factory farming pumps cows, chickens and sheep full of hormones and they eat from crops full of pesticides. Everything is highly unnatural and processed now... so saying veganism is a trap while ignoring the unhealthy ways of factory farming is truly cherry-picking data points to make a very strange argument.
I'm not a vegan, but we have to open our eyes to the damage that factory farming is doing to our food sources and our environment. The damage is absolutely massive.
I agree. Balance is the best way in all walks of life, I stated before.
By the way, the problem is not just about eating less meat. It is also about to not waste the food be it plant-based or animal based.
I didn’t mean to ignore or support the unhealthy farming for meat or animal products industry. I have my concerns about that industry too.
My argument about veganism being unnatural revolves around the fact that it cannot be regarded as a healthy way of living, because it cannot provide sufficient nutrients without technological interventions.
The industrialists are always in search of making money from different sources. So they keep on launching different products after setting up mindset about their importance.
They discovered plastics and spread it everywhere. Now, they have become cautious about environment and are turning us back towards centuries old organic products they had replaced with their plastic inventions. For instance, in my childhood, the commonly used scourers for dishing and bathing were made of pumpkin. Then, gradually they were replaced by plastic products because of their advertised durability. Now the world has awaken about the impact of non-biodegrability and new idustries are being launched producing household items from organic products.
Rising veganism appears a trap to me because it is yet a creation of another market for another industry. Yeah, everyone has a choice to opt whatever they deem fit for themselves but portraying veganism as the healthier way of living is merely a marketing strategy.
Animals and plants, both are created as a need for our body. Yes, we need to be humane in our treatment towards both them. There is a need to be cautious about their consumption, as well there is a need to develop sensitivity towards food wastage.
By the way, all the plants are as much living things as are animals 😊
Greetings.
Sorry... what do you mean that all plants are as much living things as are animals?
Perhaps, it was irrelevant point to say it here.
Actually, I read that vegan community consider it inhumane and cruel to use animals for the sake of our food and clothing needs. Why??? Because animals are living being??? So are not plants??
This is a ridiculous and insulting question and I'm unfollowing you now.
Of course, you have all the rights to follow or unfollow whomever you want.
I might be wrong in my opinions and point of views and I am open to listen to the counter argument in response to my question but I am not sure how my question is insulting and to whom.
Anyways, stay blessed.

I agreed that Vegans's diet can be a trap. As I know we have to take both things meat and animal by products for a good health. We should not use animal by products replacer that is not good.
B-12 is Vitamin that has specific use in our body.
As we believe on the divine permissions and prohibitions, we only need to be humane in our treatment towards all the flora and fauna.
