Convenience vs. Consequences
Some days ago I came across a YouTube short about physical exercises similar to traditional Indian methods of performing various household chores such as dough kneading, churning milk, sweeping with broom etc.
Now we have machines that help us perform these tasks in a much shorter time consuming lesser efforts. For instance, we have dough kneaders, blenders and vacuum cleaners making our lives easier. Nevertheless, watching that short video made me question myself if we have traded our physical fitness in exchange of ease. Perhaps, yes.
I have not fact-checked this, but my general observation is that this generation feels more lethargic as compared to the people of previous generation. They were in a better physical health than us.
The present era is marked by the dominance of technology in all aspects of life. Be it household chores, agriculture, medicine, education or any other industry the machines have replaced human labour.
Though Artificial Intelligence has been with us for many years, yet the arrival of AI tools like ChatGPT and image creators have blown us away. The work of several months can be accomplished within seconds.
The other day, my brother was telling me that he was working on a code for quite some time. At a point, he had an idea to ask ChatGPT. He said the thing that took him several hours was created by AI in a moment.
Similarly, I had trouble solving a mathematics problem. As per my evaluation I was applying all the rules correctly but the answer was incorrect. I was thinking whom I should ask. Meanwhile, the utterance of my son gave me the idea to ask ChatGPT. I not only got the understood my mistake but also something new about the rules that I never knew.
There are numerous instances where ChatGPT facilitates us beyond various limits. There is no doubt that it saves us a lot of time that we can utilize in other useful activities.
Nonetheless, despite having all the benefits it is a potential threat to various human skills. The ease of getting ultimate answers is likely to draw many of us away from reading and learning from other sources. In this way, our vision is going to be narrowed.
At various instances, I have experienced that the answer given by AI was not correct. Had I not have the prior knowledge, I might have believed the answer to be correct.
Moreover, the potential benefits of such tools are dependent on the knowledge and skills of its users. AI merely answers the questions we ask. It doesn’t give any other response based on wisdom. In other words, if we fail to ask the needed question, we won’t be getting the best response.
On the other hand, discussing something with a wise human companion is likely to bring us something that broadens our vision and breaks the matrix of thoughts we have put ourselves in. The machine doesn’t have the potential to do it.
While I understand the potential damage this tool is likely to bring, I acknowledge it endless benefits too. There is a need to consciously decide to be not solely dependent on them and keep on honing our skills.
Several machines have become threat to mankind in some way, I accept. They have brought benefits in some other way. Nonetheless, there are certain AI developments that make no sense to me. I don’t see any benefit in them, only harm.
Specifically , I am referring to the creation of fake video and audio. I believe humanity has never been in the need of any such development.
What’s the point or benefit of reproducing someone else’s voice to say the words they never uttered? This technology can only be used to harm others, as illustrated in a novel where the murderer uses the husband’s voice on the phone to trap the wife.
The same applied to videos. Apps already exist that can animate a still photo in a way as though there himself is speaking or acting. I am sure more sophistication is in progress. Using such videos anyone’s reputation can be damaged in the society.
In conclusion, while I understand the pros and cons of AI development in several domains, I am firmly opposed to the development of fake audio and video synthesis. I believe they are only to bring harm to people.

I agree with you that AI has its disadvantages in our lives, we have all become a prisoner of our cell phones because almost everything we need is now on it.
No way we can live as long as the older generation, most of us just sit and press our gadgets all day, with no exercise to keep our bodies active, all we need is our fingers and brain to operate our phones and laptops...
That's the bitter truth. We have become so much addicted that when we have nothing to do with phone we just hold it to look for what we should do
👏 Keep Up the good work on Hive ♦️ 👏

I have a friend who hates walking or trekking as the case maybe.
As she’s stepping out of the house, she won’t even want to walk to the express for a vehicle which should be like 3-10mins walk depending on the direction.
She’s booking a cab right way. One day I told her she’s actually killing her body not stretching those muscles and she said she did not come this life to suffer, basically the easy way out with the help of technology is enjoyment lol…
!LOLZ. While she is creating a suffering for her by not giving her body the necessary movement, isn’t she?

Such a good read! I definitely agree with what you have discussed. People are now very dependent with AI and those technology that we sometimes forget how to think and act on our own. A millennial like me who experienced the old fashioned way is now experiencing these technology and I can tell the big difference between how I think before and now. Yep. It sure is alarming.
I can relate. The transition in our attitudes has been gradual and I think irreversible.
I agree that the invasion of AI is alarming.

Now, isn't that quite an insight. I had the same experiences, "talking" to a chat-AI.
The funniest thing was telling it jokes, and asking it of the punch-line. It was not capable getting it. Since humor and paradox isn't something a machine can "grasp". It's a cultural thing. I placed the same joke in the text field numerous times and it always failed. Same with riddles, in particular, when it's a voluminous riddle. The machine cannot seek out the important information from the unimportant information, since every given information in a riddle is treated by it as equally important. Language is a complex human trait and it's directly attached to body. The physical body of humans make them language-learners. Since AI has no physical body, it cannot relate to physical sensations. It can though simulate it and give answers which seem coherent. But that's not the same.
I have nothing against using AI for the purposes you mentioned. But surely it can also be used to have humans out-ranked in what they are needed for. Since the development is inevitable we will live with it, in the same way we lived with books, films and the internet. If you can't howl against the wolves, you howl with them.
Believing that every moving or still image on the screen is true is something that people tend to do anyway. It will probably be the case that the distinction can no longer be made and everyone will have to think about how they deal with what they see on the screen.
I reminded of an Indian Movie, PK. An alien from another world lands on our Earth. On hus planet there is nothing like language or clothings. He encounters great difficulties dealing with the two aspects of human societies. There are humourous and insightful explanations by the protagonist about how humans don't mean what they say. For instance, saying, "I love chicken" doesn't means that one is going to take care of the chicken but to have it in the dinner. Similarly, how the ssme sentence spoken in different tones deliver entirely different meanings. Like wise, how our clothings define us.
Machines, as of present at least, are incapable to grab all the richness of cultures.
Yeah! There is no way out. !LOLZ The question is how much strength we have to howl with them..
Seriously......! It happens. I have seen people believing on such ridiculous animations that made me question their sensibility.....
Thanks for your insights on the matter, @erh.germany . As always, I enjoyed ❤️❤️

So funny! HaHa!, the chicken example.
No, also not as of future. Machines are machines. Would machines grab the richness of cultures, they would not be machines but humans. LoL
There are simple machines and advanced ones.
A machine cannot be a human being. Only a human being can be a human being. All other beings are plant beings and animal/insect beings. Other apart from beings, are objects.
That is why being mortal is quite a good thing. Within ones lifetime to face drastic change happens more than once. If one is lucky, one can cope towards such and such progress, before one tires out. The moment one becomes too tired and does not want to face another challenge, one became already old enough to die. Is what I think. Of course, this is not a static thing and no rule but it's what I think about how often one can howl with wolves.
HaHa! Now, does not everyone thinks that of everyone else. So funny. It happens both ways, doesn't it? I caught myself numerous times in my life to have been all too gullible.
Yeah! It seems impossible that machines would ever be able to grab the richness of culture, but I still have fears. Baseless fear you may say....
True.
I agree. It's pretty insightful
Me too. !LOLZ. After I had dropped the previous reply I reminded of how I myself was fooled by an animation.
We are prone to believe what we see with our eyes. Perhaps seeing things affects our analytical skills more than merely listening them.

The human being is an all sensory creature. When you, for example video chat with your kids or relatives, you may relate but not with all your senses. And also, the environment is excluded which always helps when things around people happen and to see them reacting in your presence. Or also the smells, and the overall atmosphere in a room/open space, might also sharpen the analytical sense. Not so directly as if one analyses a piece of written text, but different. We need all of it.
LoL, laughing about oneself is quite a trait. Good that you have it :)
I understand. Human being is a complex creatures with layers of complexities such as complexity of cultural influence, language, unconscious, sensory perceptions and much more. Machines are far away from many of these factors.
Hehe. It lightens life a bit, doesn’t it?
