Why I’ve Been Away for a Year – My Journey to a Northern Village in Kano

It’s been over a year since I last posted on Hive, and honestly, I didn’t plan for the silence to last this long. Life just took me in a different direction, and part of that was a journey I took that changed me deeply.

About a year ago, I traveled to a remote village in the northern part of Kano State. It wasn’t a vacation or a planned trip , more like one of those unplanned moves life pushes you into. I needed a break from everything, and somehow, that trip turned into something much more meaningful.

The village I visited was very rural. No electricity, no internet connection, and barely any phone signal. At first, I felt out of place no social media, no notifications, no city noise. But after a few days, I started to connect with the people around me, and with myself.

The villagers welcomed me like family. Most of them survive purely by farming. I met men, women, even young teenagers who wake up before sunrise to work the land. I joined them a few times on the farm not gonna lie, it was tough. But there was something honest about it. The kind of work that leaves your body tired but your soul feeling alive.

There were moments when I just sat under a tree with some elders, listening to them tell stories about their land, their culture, and how much they rely on the rain to survive. It reminded me how much we take for granted in the city things like clean water, lights, even a simple network connection.

Children ran around barefoot, laughing, playing with makeshift toys made from old tires and plastic. No tablets, no cartoons just real joy. It felt like stepping into a simpler, more grounded world.

Because of the lack of internet, I couldn’t post or update anything on Hive while I was there. I actually wrote some drafts in my notebook amd yes with pen and paper hoping to share them when I returned. But when I got back, life got busy again, and before I knew it, a whole year had passed away

This post is my way of reconnecting with Hive, with everyone here, and with that part of me that still feels changed by that experience. I’ve got more to share from that journey, and I’m hoping to post more often now.

Thanks for sticking around, if you’re still here.
